Smudge
Another nice selection there, Paul. Very nostalgic. Who would have thought at the time we would ever look twice at a Iberia A300?! Just visited my parents who live near heathrow, basically just an endless procession of A320's all day long (ok I may be exaggerating, slightly). Nice spot on the Cessna floatplane/amphibian. Also nice to see a couple of Trislanders. I have a resin kit, but no decals, so there are a couple of options Also, must comment on the sad remains of the AF Sahara. Never seen one of those, quite a rarity I should think. Must have been quite an impressive aircraft in it's day. Cheers.

Only the Trident could autoland, so they used them to get people home.
FLCH
Great pics ! Goodness brings back memories of flying the SD-360 and the DHC-7 over 30 years ago, sitting sideways on the DC-10 for Continental back when I was much slimmer and had more hair ! Nowdays it's "pushbutton glory" on the 757 and 767.

Paul J
Wow. I have just sorted out some more civvy airliner types and a couple... surprises... First off, Heathrow. Taken sometime in the mid to late1970's. A couple that have light coming in to the pic was due to the camera back opening up due to some reason. I think it was my Zenith E at the time. Olympic A 300 Egyptian Air Force C-130 SU-BA? CAF Boeing CC-137 Kuwait 747 Biggin Hill having a 'RED 'Aeroplane day! Not a special occasion , it just happened to be. I was there on an ordinary summer Sunday and there were all these red aircraft everywhere. These are some: The Hunters at this time belonged to Hunter One at Biggin. The SD360 looked to be having some maintainance and the DHC-6 parked up. More in next post at LGW and elsewhere.
Paul J
More Gatwick 'spots': I seem to recall that the above 737 and the A300 in previous posts like the Alitalia and Iberia ones for example were diversions from Heathrow due to fog or something.... Not exactly a good pic of the Short but an interesting view showing the new ATC tower under construction...whenever that was. Maybe someone could let us know as I would like to place a date for these pics. Note those huge 'barn door' flaps on the Comet! They were so easy to recognise when approaching Gatwick from a distance! A pair of nice interesting Jetstars. In the background the green field is now site of the North Terminal. I recall taking a walk along the edge with a pretty lady friend of mine one summer and....... Outside a hangar at SHoreham this Hughes. Note in background a DH Dove G-AMYP. This belonged to a Mr Wickenden who also once owned a Spit 14. He died in the Dove on take off from Shoreham crashing into the River Adur across the A27.. And finally for tonight, a couple Airline Aero Club types. I have some more pics of light aircraft in Airline schemes. I will try and collate these for a separate post/feature. BIA Chipmunk at Shoreham and.... Air France Cessna 150 at Toussus Le Noble. Enjoy and Thanks for looking!

aircraftkit
Great pictures Paul, thanks for sharing ! Just to correct one of the earlier comments, Aurigny Air Services actually still operate two BN Trislanders (G-RLON and G-BEVT) although both are due to be withdrawn later this year. They mainly operate between Guernsey (my home) and Alderney, alongside the Dornier 228. Makes me feel old, but I recall the very first Aurigny Trislander entering service in, I think, 1971; Aurigny were the launch customer for the type. Originally their fleet sported predominantly yellow liveries (like the Islanders which had served since 1968, when Aurigny commenced operations), but later on they were painted in all sorts of garish colour schemes to advertise local businesses. At the time they were dubbed "logo-props" and sometimes had their registrations changed to reflect who was "sponsoring" them (eg G-RBSI....Royal Bank of Scotland International, G-RLON....Royal London, G-OTSB...Trustee Savings Bank, etc). Anyway, great pics.......keep 'em coming ! Don
KevinK
The BIA Chipmunk was a 'pet' of the Chairman/CEO as I recall. I flew it once or twice circa 1979, the most memorable occasion being into a Goodwood 'breakfast patrol'. My Dad was flying Heralds for BIA/Air UK at the time, which gave me access to the Chipmunk. Thanks for the picture and the memories. Kevin

Keith Wickenden was the MD of Townsend Thoresen car ferries. He bought Felixstowe Dock from under the nose of the Labour Govt of the day, who were about to Nationalise it. Sadly, following his death, TT were sold to P&O, who in turn sold out to the Chinese Hutchison Ports. Despite the investment in assets, the place has gone to the dogs due to the owners attitudes.

The Tridents came in before Sept 79, and up to that date, were the biggest aircraft into Jersey. I know Sept 79 is correct because I was there on honeymoon. BEA operated Vanguards to Jersey from the early 1960s. Dimensionally the Vanguards were larger than Trident 1 and 2s, their capacity was also greater. I don't recall any of the larger Trident 3s coming in. I do recall both BEA and Channel Airways Tridents operating Jersey services. Not sure if BKS/Northeast ever used their Tridents on Jersey routes, but they certainly had Britannia 100s here during summer weekends in the late 1960s and that was bigger than the earlier Tridents, too, as were the Delta Air Transport DC6s of the mid-1970s. Air France also operated the occasional Lockheed Constellation service into Jersey in the early 60s. In later years Jersey saw scheduled British Caledonian A310 and Braathens 767 services, obviously post the dates being discussed here. The largest aircraft I ever flew into Jersey on was Caledonian Airways' Boeing 757, G-BPEE. Don
