Airliners from way back....

Just to spread the interest a bit before I post more military pics up, a few Airliners from back to the mid 1970s and up to the late 90s. I'll add to this thread as and when.

To start with , some from Jersey 1984 ish. Taken when I went there on a day trip courtesy Air Atlantique DC-3 to the Jersey Air Rally from Eastleigh:

One type rarely seen nowadays... almost quite rare when they were about...

Part 2. Some Gatwick ones. There are a couple schemes here to make you sweat a bit:blink:  All taken around the 70's. A couple or so on same day.

I have a friend whose father flew for Dan-Air and I wonder if he has that 727 in his logbook, but I can't get a clear enough image to read her registration: offers anyone please?

I'll check my logs for back then but I think it was G-BAJY or something like that.

Tasty stuff there, that CP scheme is an alltime favourite (what a pity Airfix didn't seem fit to import decals and artwork for their Canadian Parker-distributed kits to bring ***a bit ***more variety to their range). Had to look twice to realise the Dash 7 - it looks so tiny, especially as I saw quite a few SATA Dash 8 or what they're called these days on the Azores recently. And they're MUCH longer.

Who was that, Steve? I probably wrote his rosters at some point ;). It was G-BKAG, by the way.

Live in Jersey Paul and that is a great look back into the past..

To pick one. The Dart herald. A great aircraft. A lovely looking aircraft with its Daddy long legs

Great with those long legs and the wings on top of the fuselage they could land with a higher

wind speed that the Viscounts.

Laurie

PS I think it is a Dart Herald there was also a Dutch Aircraft with the same configuration a Fokker Friendship..

Great photos Paul, I have happy memories watching the Viscounts, Heralds, BAC 1-11 and the Tri-lander's at Jersey airport back in the late 70's early 80,s. My parents sent me to stay with relations, who live on the island, during the Summer holidays.

I flew on G-BORC from Cambridge to Jersey many times... lovely aircraft, with those huge windows to look out of.  I also have vague memories of seeing Dan Air Comets  flying in and out but this might be a figment of my imagination.

Thanks for sharing, would love to see more Viscount pictures if you have any.

The one in my picture IS a Fokker F-27 of Air UK. Somewhere among my many hundreds of slides there are Heralds. I'll post these in due course.

Meanwhile I am glad the pics are entertaining you all. Thanks. But still have many more I am eager to share.

Martin: Thanks for correcting the reggie of the 727. Much appreciated.

Not by any means saying you are wrong Gazza but I just cannot remember a Comet in Jersey.  I came to live in Jersey in March 1962. Perhaps it was before that date.

Not only the Viscounts.Jersey used to have a number Vickers Vanguards landing here. From memory there was only just enough runway for them.

My first trip on an aircraft was on a Dakota 1962. Remember it well. Up hill to your seat and you virtually ran out of the aircraft when leaving. Called a DakMaster.

Early March. The captain came on lot of bangs on top of the aircraft. The thumps on the fuselage, he said, are chunks of ice breaking off the wings. Hells bells first flight.

Oh well another sweet from their basket given out to ward off ear ache due to pressure. Still it was better than London City Airport. Manic. Once and no more.

The dates all these were taken vary. Some of you may recognise they were taken form the crash gate to the south at Lowfield Heath.

I spy the Trilander. Mainstay of the travel between Jersey, Guernsey and Aldreney. Aurigny Airlines.

Retired now. The famous one was JOEY a children's character. All painted yellow with a bright red nose and eyes painted on the front .

A business man is looking after her and being kept as a museum piece in Guernsey.

Matter of interest : Latin names

Aurigny        : Alderney

Sarnia         : Guernsey

Caesarea   : Jersey

I only remember IBS. I think IBR was scrapped in the 60s? The other regular 6's were those of Braathens - LN-SUK and SUB.

No,  I'm probably wrong... it was 40 odd years ago!  It may well have been at my local, Cambridge airport that I saw them.

My first trip was also on a Dakota, again Cambridge to Jersey, I remember the climb up to your seat, the barley sugar sweets handed out while decending, plus lots and lots of noise!
