Plumbum
I have picked back up on this as an interim project until my 1/48 F-14A Tomcat kit arrives. This is the old Revell 1/144 727 reboxed by ROG. I am using some old after market decals by Microscale for Northeast Yellowbird N1638. The decals show the paint scheme a little different than the pictures of that actual plane I have found on the web. So I am going by the actual pictures and not the decal sheet instructions. I have the fuselage , stabs and wings on and ready to mask for the initial paint. I am currently starting the engines to be added after the initial painting is done. Here's where I am at so far.-- 727-NE Yellowbird by jvandeu53, on Flickr OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA by jvandeu53, on Flickr OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA by jvandeu53, on Flickr 727 9 by jvandeu53, on Flickr 727 14 by jvandeu53, on Flickr 727 12 by jvandeu53, on Flickr
Turbofan
Hi, The differences might be because your model is a -100 and the photo is of a -200. Cheers, Ian
Romeo Alpha Yankee
looking forward to seeing how this one turns out John, some images of NE -100s
pinky coffeeboat
Nice work. In spite of its age, I think the general consensus is the kit is "decently" accurate. I sanded and rescribed the fuselage and wings just before Christmas with the intention of starting it after the holidays. So far it hasn't appeared from the box but following your build may be impetus I need.  Jeff
Plumbum
The difference in paint jobs isn't because it's either a -100 or -200. It's the year, NE had a little different scheme in '69 than in '72. I've finally seen -100 and -200 in the same scheme and in different schemes but at overlapping times, if that makes any sense.---John
stringbag
The accuracy of some old Microscale sheet instructions was a bit hit and miss so go with the pictures every time If it helps, I have some old Runway 30 decals which show a more accurate colour demarcation than Microscale. I can scan and send a copy if you need them. Â Chris.

ROBOT
Hey John, watching with great interest as I'm building this kit myself right now, what a lovely colour scheme you chose that suits the 727 perfectly   !! Please keep the pictures coming, I can't wait to see more !  Thanks for sharing your build, Regards, Olli
Plumbum
I found this paint scheme, not a 100 but still same scheme.---John photo_17956 by jvandeu53, on Flickr

Plumbum
I am changing liveries from Northeast to American Airlines. I like the old original Astrojet scheme much better and it's less masking. I have the bottom all closed up and the doors puttied up. It looks good on the stand, now to order decals and paint.---John 2-boeing-727-n1988-aa-buffalo-20-3-66 by jvandeu53, on Flickr OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA by jvandeu53, on Flickr 727 19 by jvandeu53, on Flickr
Alex1978
Just found this WIP. Comes along very nice.Looking forward to see the finished 727. Â I just finished 2 of those kits some weeks ago. They can be seen here in the RFI as well. They go together rather nicely despite the kits age. Plumbum
I just started masking and painting the Boeing gray on the tail and nose. I have no schematics so I am wading through pictures. I have to decipher if it's a -100 or -200 then an old scheme with the lightning bolt or the newer red, white, blue stripe scheme.---John OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA by jvandeu53, on Flickr 727 23 by jvandeu53, on Flickr
Plumbum
The hard part is figuring where the wings and fuselage bottom get the Boeing gray. I think the wings also have dark gray panels in the middle of the wing?---John

I think the wings also have dark gray panels in the middle of the wing?---John John, I'm on holiday in Germany at the moment but I'm about 75% sure that somewhere in my archives at home there is a drawing of the original wing colours of the 727 although I can't remember if it's for the -100 or -200. I'll check when I get home at the weekend and pm you.  At the end of the day you may just have to go with an educated guess on the basis that what looks right is unlikely to be far wrong. I do it all the time!
Plumbum
Thanks, I would appreciate that. I am only hoping the weather holds out. We have a major hurricane headed our way here in Florida and so far I am right in it's path, mobile retirement homes don't take well in 100 mile an hour plus winds.---John
Skodadriver
Fingers crossed for you John.  Hope you and yours will be OK.  Fortunately we don't have much experience of hurricanes or tropical storms in Europe but my thoughts are with you and I'm sure the same goes for everyone else who is following this thread.  Dave G
bzn20
That Astrojet scheme was something else, Great era. Massive US fleets compared to ours and Europe's then. look forward to watching this. I saw a stack of 707s and 727s at LAX in the Astro/Red,White and Blue change over period blinding in the sunset. I would have loved to see the CV990s. I liked the NE look too.
