shatters
Hi all, I'm wishing to model a 10 sqn Dakota C4 as used during the Berlin airlift, code ZA My first question is are there any external differences between a post war C4 and the Airfix Dakota mk III ? Secondly can anyone suggest a good source of 10 squadron images during this period ? Finally does anyone produce 1/72 squadron crest decals, as fitted on the nose of RAF Dakotas ? Many thanks Phil
shatters
Oh, I'll ask an easier one, what the best pictorial reference book covering the Berlin airlift ? Phil
iainpeden
Not a pictoral history but "The Berlin Airlift" by Robert Jackson is an interesting read. ISBN 0-85059-881-8, published by PSL in 1988
Creepy Pete
Not limited to the RAF, and it's in German, but the book "Auftrag Luftbrücke, der Himmel über Berlin 1948-1949" is also a very nice book, with lots of photo's about all aspects of the airlift period. ISBN 3-87584-692-3, published by the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin in 1998.

stever219
The Dakota Mk. III was equivalent to the C-47A and the Dakota Mk. IV to the C-47B. The latter had R-1830-90 engines with two-stage superchargers for better high altitude performance but appears externally identical to the former. Graham Boak
My understanding is that the C-47B has the longer carburettor intakes above the engine.
