RAF Coltishall 1968

Hi. Been busy today scanning another couple hundred slides... loads and loads more to go. I will do some Greenham ones and Farborough of late 70's and in to 80s. But for now I found these. I thought I had lost them. Not my slides but sent to me by nice lad from East Grinstead ATC unit way back then.  Not many but still interesting  and remain undoctored by me.

One of the two Chippies giving us cadets rides. Note the required stance with the 'chute strapped on! I flew in WG458/N.

EDIT: The Lightning line in the above pics are the T4. On the other apron ( behind camera ) were the T5. Sorry but no decent pics of them.

Hi Paul,

who was that at the EG ATC? I was there.

M

I don't really recall. I think it was a Graham ???/ Not sure. Tall lad.   In amongst the slides are pics of our billet all wrecked by a raid form some blighters from 304 Hastings Squadron. I can post pics of that Friday night!  We were in Aaron Block |If I am right.  Wednesday that week, we had a display by the Reds in their Gnats and a solo by Lightning XM216.

Thanks Paul but that isn't a name I recall. As I recall Dave Flux was the NCO in charge of 1343 (ATC) Sqn. A chap called Attenborough (?) was CO I think.

The same happened to us at Brize in 1973 ;) .... Great times - gliders, Chippie flying, base camps, etc.

Regards,

Martin

Strange how things stick with you . .  . my AE was at Newton but they brought some Chippies in when we were at West Raynam.

We were always told that you should not be able to stand upright otherwise the 'chute' wasnt on properly,

Thanks for posting the pics, the Lightnings were interesting, most of them ended up at Binny.
