Pete in Lincs
This morning at the local car boot sale, in a box of old kits, I found a 1960's model of Fireball XL5 that I lusted after way back then. It's a bit battered and Fireball junior is missing. So I have two questions, Are new decals available? I will have to strip off the old paint for a start! Does anyone else have one who is willing to take measurements of Junior so I can do a scratchbuild? Many thanks Pete

roymattblack
Hello Pete. What a great find! That kit, from Kitmaster, is a 'Holy Grail' model for Gerry Anderson fans. There are currently NO kits of Fireball available. Luckily, Fireball Junior is probably the simplest part of the model so scratching it shouldn't be too much of a problem. There are plenty of plans of XL5 on Google images. Download one, scale it to the size of your model and away you go. Have a peep here: http://www.aiai.ed.ac.uk/~bat/GA/fireball-specs.html Decals shouldn't be any problem. PM me if you get stuck in any way. I'd LOVE to help on this one! Roy. Richard E
If you struggle to find the "right" markings, here's an alternative scheme for you:
Pete in Lincs
Thank you both for the prompt replies. 'Holy Grail' Don't I know it! I could not believe my luck, and it was hard to keep a straight face as I walked away! I'll hit Google etc later. At the moment I nee to finish my present model before I clear the decks for this beauty. Richard, I've seen those profiles before and I'd like to do the one above but I'm afraid it will be stock colours this time. BTW, I'll be in Essex tomorrow morning, I have a beer delivery in Stow Maries. Then off to the Mighty Oak brewery to pick up some more of the stuff. AngstROM
Had one when I was a wean; dunno if it's the same kit, but it wasn't sold over-the-counter -you had to send three ice-lolly wrappers plus postal order for around 5 bob to get the thing. I remember being impressed with the detail & quality of the tooling even at that tender age! There was a Stingray jobbie a year or so later, IIRC. Innocent, happy days! Pete in Lincs
They were indeed. The Gerry Anderson shows made my week. The sons of family friends had one of these in a bedroom cupboard, Oh, I was green with envy! Still, got one now, It's only taken around fifty years. Then again the box of models cost one pound fifty so a bit of a bargain and I didn't have to eat an ice lolly! Cheers pete
Richard Baker
You might want to check over on the web site EagleTransporter.com That is a great hub for all things involving Gerry Anderson's universe- people there are w well wired into what's available and how to enhance older kits...
