Curtiss Tomahawk IIB (Airfix 1:72)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I purchased this for my son last year as part of his DoE 'Skills'. However, he opted for a sport in the end so I thought I'd build it whilst waiting for my first 2017 GB to commence.

Nice simple, stress-free build hopefully

Here are the usual box and sprue pictures to get this underway

Decided to make a start before the weekend finished. 'Office' now painted, grimed and dry brushed with a little aluminium :)

Oh yeah, I also built the prop (in the background) :pilot:

Nice start What colour scheme are you going for?

  Roger

Thanks Roger :)

I'm going with the box scheme:

  • 112 Squadron, Fort Maddalena, Libya, 1941

Which translates to Middle Stone, Dark Earth & Azure

Hi Nigel. Sorry - I managed to miss this on Saturday and I'm here to discover you are well underway. The cockpit looked great and it all looks to have gone together very well. Looking forward to seeing more.

Kind regards,

Stix

Hi Roger, I'm hoping to get some paint on this weekend (if not before) :)

Thanks Stix - I have to admit that there was less filler required than I thought there would have to be. It's quite a nice little kit to work on :)

Well, I did manage some paint at the weekend but an unexpected family visit meant it was limited to the smaller parts. One of these was the pilot who I've decided to included as I think he'll look OK once the canopy is on :)

The side panels are also painted so the next step is the glass and mask in preparation for that primer!!

Cheers Stix - You too!

Hoping to move it on a tad as I'm away next weekend and then the following weekend sees the start of the NATO GB :frantic:

Talking of getting a move on. My two boys went out for the night and my wife and daughter decided to plot up in front of Big Brother so my evening went from this:

It looks really smart.

If you don't know already, the rear windows might not fit as well as they should.

Thank you Beard - And thanks for the heads up re. the glass panels :)

I've had a head cold since Friday so instead of heading out on my bike this morning, I cracked on with the build. Panel lines, light weathering and a coat of matt varnish now ticked off the list. Next pictures should be of completed model :)
