silver911
Now for the 'fins' themselves....how to do it?! I spent a lot of time trying several different ways to represent the fins...fuse wire...folded ali plate....I even had a go at hand scribing them in plastic card!....but all to no avail Nothing I tried came close to the effect I wanted. Then...when surfing the net looking for inspiration...the thought struck me.....Photo-etch! I spent a lot of time searching for 'after market' PE....again...all to no avail....nobody does anything like it....not that I could find anyway. After a lot of searching I found a company in Scotland who specialise in Photo etching and sent them an e-mail ( http://www.ppdltd.com )....asking if they could produce what I was after. Next day I got a reply from a guy called Craig...who was very helpful...and asked me to provide an idea of what I wanted. Over the next few days we conversed by e-mail...with Craig explaining what they needed from me in order to produce the PE fins. It was then a matter of sending them the 'artwork' in a suitable format....paying....and waiting for it to arrive....which it did a few days later. Now all I had to do was cut it to size/shape....... It now remains to prime all the parts for airbrushing....the inset areas...where the PE fits..will be black...allowing the fins to show up nicely. Hope you agree it was worth the effort. Codger
I have been away from the forum with family medical matters (and will continue to be a bit more, unhappily) but glad I could pop in here. You are making quantum leaps with realism here. The find in Scotland was a major discovery for they produce excellent parts.Your machine work and detailed reference will produce a spectacular Ducati. Only your finishing skills can improve these parts and that is a treat I look forward to. You are raising the bar for anyone smart enough to pay attention here. Continue to show the way for those of us eager to learn advanced skills.

With all you have going on...your taking the time to comment means a great deal to me Mr C They are most definitely a company to bookmark for the future. There are many here with skills way in advance of mine....with the machinery and knowledge I can never hope to possess or afford...what I am personally trying to show is that you can still make something special with basic skills and outlay. silver911
Another quick update....continuing to add some of the missing details....this time the battery. In line with the normal hatred of the kit screws...I sleeved the over size battery strap fixing points...so that I could replace them with better scale ones. Next up I milled out the two areas for the connector bolts to give some headroom for them. I then added the connector plates for the bolts. Next up were the the connectors and bolts...which are fitted to check clearances etc. Then I pre-threaded the strap screws for ease of fixing...followed by a test fit. Lastly I added the fixing bolt and checked the fit of all the parts prior to painting/weathering/decals and cables. It is time consuming adding so many basic details but...if I am honest....a lot of fun Ron

rjfk2002
I am just catching up here Ron. The PE looks great. How did you get the design down? Did you draw it on paper and they converted to PE or did you design on the computer?

Hi Rich....the artwork was created in 'Adobe Illustrator'......PPD's preferred format....a suitable picture of the fins was found on the net...then drawn over in AI and the resulting file sent to them (PPD) to create the PE from. They will do the artwork for you....but that incurs an added cost. Ron

Mpfiend
Very nice work Ron, the added details to the radiators and the Battery look spot on. I especially like the Photo etch fins that you have had made. I may try and get hold of a set of these if I may? Have you seen that Autograph are releasing a transit for this model at the end of the month? it looks to be very comprehensive (and probably pricey although no pricing available yet) Autograph Ducati Transkit Best Regards Keith
