JackG
A good synopsis of the two units operating this vehicle: http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/thread/1015379535 Then combine with Wiki entry on 653rd Heavy Panzerjäger Battalion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/653rd_Heavy_Panzerjäger_Battalion ... seems that a few vehicles were still knocking about when the ambush scheme was introduced (August 1944). My two cents, not very likely to carry that particular scheme. By that time, crews were well aware of the need to paint up their vehicles to hide from Allied air superiority, but if there was a major overhaul on a vehicle, then it would be locally painted in that way. Without photo proof, you can do as you wish. I'd suggest picking a late war unit (mentioned above), and do a photo search and see what comes up. regards, Jack
Sgt.Squarehead
IMHO.....No. For this to be possible it would have to be an Elefant not a Ferdinand as all surviving Ferdinands were upgraded not long after Kursk.....I've got kits that claim to represent every Ferdinand/Elefant ever deployed and none of them mention the ambush scheme anywhere. I've also got a book on s.Jg.Pz.Abt.653 somewhere and while I haven't looked at it recently I don't recall seeing anything in ambush in there (gonna have to check now).
Badder
That camo is hard to copy.... painting the green and the brown while leaving little circles for the dark yellow to show through..... Badder
Sgt.Squarehead
I have mixed feelings about ambush camo.....When I first got back into the hobby I was convinced you could use it on everything and that it was easy to paint. I'm wiser now.
JackG
Been trying to find the origins of the artwork, and it appears to be associated with the Italeri boxing based on a computer game, World of Tanks. http://www.model-making.eu/products/German-Ferdinand-Elefant-World-of-Tanks-series.html So yeah, unfortunately a major model company is trying to appeal to the gaming community rather than those interested in history. regards, Jack
Sgt.Squarehead
This does not improve my already low opinion of WOT (or Italeri for that matter) even slightly.
