Next step, out with the scalpel and cutting board to cut out that Falcon shape.

First cut was intended to be rough, then tut tailfeathers in afterwards.

paint on the sand, remove the mask.  Disaster - it didn't work!

So my next idea was to paint out the sand patch mush larger and wait for that to dry.

I took the Falcon shape paper I'd cut out earlier, and cut those tailfeathers in.

I stuck this to the model using some foil glue I've got - though I reckon copydex would do as well. 

Pressed on firmly, right round the edges.

Bit of a problem with the claw, I'll freehand that.

And a patch on the tailfeathers this side.

Painted on the brown, working from the paper outwards, and removed the masks as soon as both sides were painted.
