theplasticsurgeon
Starting with this kit, bought for 3 quid from SMW 2010. And planning to complete as Israeli AF livery. No decals other than leftover insignias from Phantoms and Eagles - so very DIY. Edited February 12, 2017 by theplasticsurgeon More info

theplasticsurgeon
Earlier this morning - pre-airbrushing. This will be an in-flight model - I closed the gear doors. And a VERY cold airbrushing session later, I've applied XtraColour Light Ghost Grey to the underside.
theplasticsurgeon
Fruits of about an hour's masking time - during a wet morning Then a cold but DRY lunchtime in the shed, airbrushing. This is X812 US Army Sand - nearest match on my bench. And it's drizzling again.
trickyrich
The weather won't help with the painting at all, but the first top coat looks good.

theplasticsurgeon
Light green camo applied earlier this morning Revell 59 colour. Canopy not permanently fixed yet, and I can't find pilot figures to put in there. And a bit later I applied the brown - Humbrol 118. Realising that I don't have photos of same aircraft from both sides - this is look&feel accuracy only. trickyrich
looks good, though I'm a wee bit confused with the "Revell 59 Light Green"?
theplasticsurgeon
Just now, trickyrich said: looks good, though I'm a wee bit confused with the "Revell 59 Light Green"? I used Revell paint number 59 as the Light Green colour on the camo. Anyways, some leftover decals from a Phantom applied today Than must be the other side of 40 years old!
trickyrich
I think it was just the first lot of photos and the light as the pale green looked almost a pale fawn colour, but these latest photos you can see that it is a green colour.
theplasticsurgeon
Update on painting, Like if you want to see how I did this - without decals.
theplasticsurgeon
Well one like so here goes. Looking on internet, I found a picture of decals for this subject - in 32nd scale. Printed, I measured the length on that image from the wingtip to the claw (103mm) - which is a close enough match to the length of the rudder hinge line. I measured the rudder hinge on the model (31mm). Dividing one into the other 31/103 I got a scale factor of 0.30097. Times that by 100 gives 30.09%, or 30% on works copier. Quick measure of reduced image confirmed that 31mm dimension that I wanted. Next installment: The wrong way, and the right way.
