Douglas O2MC expert needed

Hi,

In one book and in Net I have found following photo described as photo of Douglas O2MC:

image005_zps4dq04o13.jpg

However this this a bit different airplane then others O2MC, perhaps some late version? I know that there were different variants of O2MC from 1 up to MC 6 and MC 10 (http://en.valka.cz/topic/view/144969/Douglas-O-2MC)

Please note rounded trailing edge of rudder (six blue strips are visible, so no rudder  below horizontal tail, below rounded end of fuselage close to variant o38e, a somethinh like a tank in central part of upper wing (or at least higher profile). Can anybody help in judging what is here on this photo? Is it some O2 MC-10 or MC-6 or just something completly else?

Cheers

Second question is about this photo (below) - the airplane from which photo is taken looks to be also O2MC - the rigging is of this machine. But there unusual gun on wing. The portraited machine has no such gun (at least on right wing). Any expert know anything on such additional gun(s) on O2MC?

Cheers

According to A History of CHINESE AVIATION, Encyclopedia of Aircraft and Aviation in China until 1949, the CAF had 17 x O-2MCs, 20 x O-2MC5s, 65 x O-2MC6s and 20 x O-2MC10s on 1 July 1937. The O-2MC was essentially identical to the O-38 and powered by the uncowled 525 hp P&W Hornet A. O-2MC5 was powered by the 420 hp P&W Wasp C1. The O-2MC6 had the 575 hp Wright R-1820-E and O-2MC10 was powered by the 670 hp Wright R-1820-F21. The fin and rudder shape of the O-38/O-2MC series varied by versions, but no information on which version had rounded fin and rudder.

On page 121 of the above mentioned book, there is a photo of the O-2MC2 of which rudder seems to be round, though most the fin and rudder are hidden by the lower wing. Found a photo of a O-2MC, No. 501 with a gun blister of the lower wing on page 99 of the same book, but no description mentioned about the wing mounted gun.

Cheers,

Jun - many thanks! I think this "2004" must be (if it is not semething elso then O2MC) some late variant . Perhaps O2MC10? .

I was intending to do this 2004  due to white band (BTW - what does it means? - I've seen white bands on Northrop Gamma 2e also)  but I quit this choice since the scale of conversion for this variant is not sure. And even I have doubts if it is really O2MC.

The machine "110" on photo of my second post above is also of some not sure variant - perhaps  with additional gun (or two guns?) - and light U/C suggests blue bottom but it is also not sure...So I quit it also

Therefore I think I will do O2MC2 No 411, here is profile (middle), which is not very doubtfull about version...(I hope - I've read that O2MC2 is the same as O38B) :

I belive to post is soon on RFI. I am going to start painting, two last days I was doing rigging :)

Cheers

The first photo you have posted is not the O-2MC, but one of the Yangcheng 74 - 77, Chinese made biplane reconnaissance/bomber based on the O-2MC3. You can find a full story about Yangcheng machines in Mr. Lin's Early Chinese Aircraft website here. https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=zh-CN&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=ja&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fcwlam2000.0catch.com%2Fcafx05.htm&edit-text=

Many thanks Junchan!!! So my speculations/observations were correct! This was a game "find ten differences between two figures"...

Best regards
