exdraken
MiG-25RB Foxbat Cairo West 1971 ICM 1/48 Begemot Decals As pre-ordering a kit was a first for me , I had to immediately(ok, Christmas holidays were not possible) start it in the meantime it is also clear which version is in the kit see other BM threads for more info please.. I want to do a very early Foxbat, a Soviet Union operated one that actually saw action! not so many options here so I am going to build one I was inspired by the Arab MiGs book series by Harpia publishing on Foxbats operated in more or less secrecy over Sinai Israel/ Egypt by the Soviet Union. Tto gather intelligence and to test their new promising fancy Mach 2.8 equipment operationally, 4 planes (2 Rs and 2 RBs) were sent. They were operated initially with Egyptian markings! (that did not withstand the heat of prolonged super sonic flight well and had to be repainted often) Additional info and clearer photos are available in Yefim Gordon's MiG-25 book. Begemot Decals provide adequate markings , not that there is much of them though... some changes have to be made to the currently boxed sprues in order to build a very early R/ RB namly the intake lip has to be shortened and the para-brake housing changed. The nose provided is the correct one so here is what I got: http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah144/exdraken1/MiG-25RB/IMG_4488_1_1_zpsk8yfanmj.jpg http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah144/exdraken1/MiG-25RB/IMG_4546_1_1_zpsnwm2rltp.jpg parts to be modified: http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah144/exdraken1/MiG-25RB/IMG_4546_1_1_1_zpsvrwrxysv.jpg nice oob IP detail: http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah144/exdraken1/MiG-25RB/IMG_4552_1_1_zpsjqfxngbu.jpg and some clean up operations done : http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah144/exdraken1/MiG-25RB/IMG_4555_1_1_zpss15oerex.jpg I am impressed so far!!! compared to my AMX Ghibli dwarf on the right: http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah144/exdraken1/MiG-25RB/IMG_4556_1_1_zps9htwrjgr.jpg to be continued! Marlin
Great start Werner. I'm going to build the same one when I get mine. So I'll just sit back and take lots of notes. Good luck with your build. /Bosse
modelling minion
Nice start Werner, and a nice choice of subject. I toyed with the idea of doing an Egyptian based Soviet one myself but have decided to build mine as an aircraft from the Group Of Soviet Forces Germany from the 1970's for the upcoming NATO/Warpac 1970's GB, either that or one of the Bulgarian ones. Watching with interest. Craig.

John hmm, not much to watch out for for the time being....a part from that it is a big kit....I am not really following instructions, the landing gear seems to be easily install-able afterwards as well! I am currently painting the very nice cockpit, and painted all the visible interior components, like gear bays and air intakes with a "steel" color, before gluing the parts together. fit is very nice! The air intake upper lip looks like to be an easy mod (saw of the lip and re-sharpen the cut) the para brake housing is bit more work, but limited to 2 parts....I am searching for some cross sections of this parts at the moment! Hope to provide some photo update soon! / Werner

exdraken
hi everybody, slow progress that has absolutely nothing to do with the kit! I am trying to do something about the kink in the nose.... so this time trying to add one.... a bit one dimensioal, but maybe effective ... I'll leave you to judge it! I mixed my own interior blue... looks a bit green on this photos in bright sunlight, and a bit blue in these taken indoors wit the mobil phone thanks for comments!

I glued the front and the lower side and added some nose weight. and I worked on the IP. unfortunately ICM does not provide any Instrument decals, only the very nice trassparent part. as "glasses" so I used Airscale decals and eyeballed the instruments. to have something and not void holes. I guess it will do! the KM1 seat got some PE belts, they make it look more busy time to close the front section! exdraken
finally could do some more work! have to say, that it is really a pleasure to build! I am not really caring for the instruction sequence.... but seems to work my way, or maybe anyway! fit is exceptional! my nose job.... not that much left of the original bump finally, but at least noticable.... maybe I was a bit overambitious with plastic glue instead of using CA.... next time I would brace both halves and then join them! then I glued the intakes and fuselage parts together, take your time and look how everything is supposed to fit BEFORE glueing, if you run into trouble look again.... fit is superb! and just a quick trial, if the top part and fin parts would also fit... - yes
exdraken
more work done: nose glued on without any issues down the intake: top part not glued yet, but no issues expected the upper intake lips need to be trimmed by ~ 5mm for an early RB up until ~ 1979 I think , it is not small so to say! looking like one of the unearthed Iraqi examples now : still fits in the box though!! sorry for the picture flood....
Marlin
Looking good Werner. No need to apologise for the picture flood. The more the merrier I think. /Bosse
exdraken
some, admittedly still crude paint work on the nozzle section of the astonishingly large R-15-300? engines. I did some re-modelling of the inner aferburner section wall, as these corrugated shape does not seem present on MiG-25RB models. at least not on the pictures that I found....short petal fighter versions seem to have the corrugated metal inlet though..... but who knows, maybe it is late vs early production or some other reason... these here represent engine nozzzles as present on Iraqi RBT currently residing as a war trophy in the USAF museum:not my photo, so only a link https://www.flickr.com/photos/multiplyleadership/6852804025/ colors seem to be largely ok for now. detail painting of the outer nozzle petals is strictly necessary though! because there is detail to paint and highlight! ordered a Master pitot tube as well today..... exdraken
I trimmed the upper intake lips back to the original, early shape, that means cutting about 5mm. upper parts are not glued yet!
