H-81A AVG windscreen-gunsight photo

While looking for some photos of R.T. Smith's #77 mount, I found this one that clearly shows the external ring sight, the armored glass windscreen panel, and what I believe is the reflector for the floor-mounted gunsight projector unit. I thought this might be useful for those of you working on a 1/72 or 1/48 model.

This just in! Found the website the photo above was taken from- lots of great detail photos, some in color, as well as color profiles of the AVG Tomahawks. Many I have never seen before and show details not normally seen around the canopy and lower engine cowling! Had to share them with you all!

Thank You for that link ; there are lots of photos there-many I have not seen before

Try this link- go to the last photo; it shows RT's #47, and it looks like the ring and bead sight is on the RH of the centerline.

I found a few photos that might be helpful, and have posted the links below. I seem to recall photos of the floor-mounted gun sight projector as well as the reflector glass mounted to the inside of the armored glass panel in the center of the windscreen, but I don't have that link at hand. I guess the appearance of the reflector panel on the back of the armor glass would tend to indicate that the reflector sight was fitted, but that's an un educated guess on my part. Decisions, decisions! You can see different mounting brackets for the glass reflector in the photos.

Sorry I don't have any better references, but maybe these will help.

P-40 BC/H81, the bead and ring had 3"25/32 right offset

Sorry to drag up this old thread. I know that some AVG P-40’s had both reflector type as well as ring & bead sights. Would you have any photo’s of the interior view showing the reflector hanging from the grab bar and the offset in the ring & bead sights. Im currently working on Hawk 81-A-2 side number #21 listed as being flown by Gregory Boyington. Id like to try and get it correct and dont know if his aircraft had both types of sight or just the Ring & Bead ?

Interesting this thread bobbed to the surface as I'm finishing up an Airfix AVG P-40B.  It's been a protracted build for such a simple kit, with much overpainting already.

Now I really must fix the wingtip roundels.  Airfix had me apply them too far in.  Good thing I have two sets of decals, and Airfix made panel lines that can soak up twelve layers of paint.

Yep-he  was an incredible stick and rudder man, and a real gentleman. I was in awe when he flew his P-51D, a T-33A, and the Shrike Commander at one of our Randolph AB airshows. Watching that aerobatic routine with both props feathered was an incredible demonstration of airspeed and altitude management! He is missed.

Yep it is Bob Hoover, best airshow i ever saw was Oshkosh 92 when he did the no engine routine in the Aero commander. Blew my mind so much that it never truly recovered.
