Jetgrob
My sister has asked me to do a diorama of a Wessex as used in N.Ireland in the early 70's She served in the UDR and was flown all over in a Wessex. The Wessex is easy but I would like to know if anybody has made Figures (Military) Landrover Saracen Bedford lorry. from this era. I have checked local hobby shops and have had no luck. Any and all help would be appreciated.

tonywood
There was also a soft top Land Rover in the Airfix Bloodhound missile kit which may be useful.
Ivor Ramsden
There isn't much available in kit form. The Airfix, ex-JB, Bedford MK might be a bit late for the period that you're wanting to represent. The Airfix Bloodhound kit's Land-Rover is a Series 1, none of which were left in service in NI by then. The Airfix, ex-JB, long wheelbase Land-Rover is a poor representation of the real thing. BW Models, now out of business, produced 1/76 scale white metal short and long wheelbase Land-Rovers and Land-Rover Lightweights along with Bedford RLs which were all used in NI. They turn up on ebay occasionally. For Land-Rovers I suggest you look at die-casts. Have a look at www.Hattons.co.uk and search "Land Rover" but beware that some of their stock is O gauge rather than OO which is 1/76. They list several versions of Series 2 and 3 L-Rs and a Lightweight is due for release shortly. Ignore Defenders - they didn't exist back in the 70s. I used to pour scorn on die-casts (toys!) but they now seem to be more accurate and cheaper than plastic kits. They can be stripped, modified and painted to suit your project. Black Knight
I can't add anything to the advice on Landies, its all good BW [afair] used to make NI specific Landies; RUC Snatch and Army patrol. For figures, about the only set are these from Revell, armed with the SA80 http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=296 or these http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=2121 A few of these can be adapted http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=

RichG
For NI in the 1970's some of these figures below might work well enough. Although as they relate to the Falklands war I'm sure there will be inaccuracies in detail and of course some poses are potentially unsuitable. http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1343 http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=2315 http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=242 Hope that helps Rich

Gary West
Nothing really to add except that I was detached to 72 Sqn several times late 70s including periods at Support Helicopter Det, RAF Aldergrove. As I'm sure you already know RAF HC2's shared duties with RN HU5's and both shared the Aldergrove pan with RAF Pumas throughout the 70s - if I can be of any help?
