... let's face it, neither will win a beauty contest although to my mind the MiG-19S has a certain brutish charm.

I say chaps, can someone more enlightened than my humble self, please explain what the red semi circular markings with red triangle on the fuselage and wing fence signify or mean???

Righto chaps when the semi circles align to form a full circle we are all in perfect "V" formation symphony...well almost - I say number 2 bring it up a little...

They are station keeping marks - when they are lined up the aircraft are in the correct echelon position when flying in formation.

 

The J-11b has a similar system - yellow bars on the wingtip launch rails that line up with yellow bars on the spine when they are in the correct formation.....

I put them on my Trumpeter J-11B - although I did not get the angles quite right.
