Oliver d
Any one know of any 1/72 scale light aircraft kits like Cessnas Pipers Beechcraft? Bell209
Airfix made a Piper Arrow in 1/72. I'm not sure if it's still available. I think there's a Bird Dog and Piper Cub out there, too.
Eric Mc
Been asked a number of times. Mainstream injection moulding companies have shied away from light aircraft as a rule presumably because they just don't sell in sufficient volumes to warrant tooling costs. Â Airfix did indeed do a 1/72 PA28 Cherokee Arrow (retractable undercarriage variant). Â KP do a J3 Cub (an old mould version and a new mould version under the current AZ ownership) Â A Models do a Let Morava and an Aero 145 (which are quirky Eastern European Cold War era light twins). Â Most other mainstream "light aircraft kits" have usually been released because the aircraft had a military version - such as Airfix's Beagle 206, Cessna O-1 Bird Dog and O-2 Skymaster and their Scottish Aviation Bulldog. FROG did a Percival Proctor. Airfix do a nice modern tool Tiger Moth. FROG did a DH60 Moth which has been re-issued in modified form in recent years by A Model The Japanese company Eidai issued a 1/72 Cessna 172, a Cessna 337, a Beech 35 Bonanza and a Fuji 200. Â Â If you want more general light aircraft in 1/72, you are going to have to look for specialist short run, often resin, kits. Ragtag
I have the Beech Bonanza, it's a tidy little kit of the twin-tail version.
Jessica
See the post "Database of light aircraft models" which is a consensus (with a bit of wandering off-topic) of what's been produced.

Don't forget another out-of-production kit from Airfix, the Auster Antarctic that was reissued as the AOP.6, but can be finished in civil markings as required.
Space Ranger
Search here: https://www.scalemates.com/ Â Constanza Kit is a German manufacturer of civil aircraft kits in resin. Pricey but excellent. Â
Paul J
I did mention and seen them mentioned before but Aurora did a small range of light types in 1/72 in the form of the Cessna 337, Pa28 140(fixed undercart version) Pa23 Aztec and Aeo Jet Commander biz jet. All now long gone. But I do have all these built plus one Jet Commander unbuilt still. Â There were others by Aurora but odd scales.
Eric Mc
I have the Aurora PA23 in my stash. I may build it - one day.
alancmlaird
Don't forget Airfix's SAL Bulldog - civil examples are around, or not too difficult conversions to a Beagle Pup. Search also for Dujun - French manufacturer with a big range of light aircraft in resin. Also there are Zlin and Yak aerobatic lightplanes, plus a recent Stampe SV4C and Piper Pawnee. Heller has a Messerschmitt 108 that can become the civil Nord equivalent, and a Saab Safir. Kits For Cash had a Grob and some others I think. The old Aurora kits in odd scales were Piper Apache 1/64th, Aero Commander and Beech 18 in about 1/78th and 1/84th respectively. With the old Frog (etc) Proctor and Magister kits plus bit of imagination and a lot of filler can produce almost the whole Miles and Percival civil ranges. Pretty rare now are 'Monty's' Miles Messenger (maker's name eludes me!), and of course the same aircraft in vac-form from Aeroclub -who also did some oher pre-war light aircraft. Jure Miljevic
Hi Oliver As it has been mentioned before ARII produced V35 Bonanza, but to represent an IAF example some fuselage shortening, blanking off aft windows and few other corrections (like adding bomb racks) are needed. Talking about War of independence/Palestinian war period: ZTS Mikro produced RWD.8, Matchbox Norseman has been reissued a year or so ago and an old Heller Dragon Rapide can still be found if one is persistent enough in searching. I think it is Special Hobby, which produces Fairchild F.24 and while I have no idea about an Auster AOP.5 I imagine that should not be too difficult given popularity of this plane among British. There is plenty of various kits of Tiger Moths, Oxfords and Ansons around, but with exotic stuff like Taylorcraft Model C you are pretty much on your own, I am afraid. Jure Miljevic
Hi Oliver Well, RVHP produced a long line of various resin Beechcraft kits in 1/72. Then there is a Canadair Challenger in 1/72 from BPK, which may or may not fit your bill (heard some rumors about one being used as a spy plane some time ago), I think it was Airfix which produced Islander ages ago and IIRC someone had done resin Socata Trinidad. Cheers Jure
