TankerTweaker
also work on a Mig-21? I have the OEZ Mig-21 kit and it's missing the intake ring part. Was looking at the Su-22M-4 resin intake cover from Quickboost and it looks like it might fit. Also, looking at several pictures of the Mig-21 parked on the ground, the inlet cone can be in different positions. Should the cone be fully extended or retracted while parked? Thanks
Jure Miljevic
Probably would not work. On both planes intake cover is designed to fit radom/nose cone in its extreme fore position. As on MiG-21 there is also a radar dish beneath the radome, diameter and height of that cone is quite large. On Su-22 nose cone is basically just a plug for airflow control and as such is of moderate dimensions. Perhaps Su-22's cover could fit on MiG-21 F-13 nose, but even so some modifications would probably be required. Cheers Jure
TankerTweaker
Thanks Jure for the info. I'll have to hunt for a cover specifically for the MIG-21 then.

Thanks the Su-17/22 is a much larger aircraft... that is what you need I guess: from HAD Models http://www.hadmodels.com/mugyanta_termekek_58/repulogepek_59/148_77/148008_mig_21_mfbis_repteri_szett_eduard_academy_italeri_makettekhez_148_1510 http://hadmodels.cdn4.shoprenter.hu/custom/hadmodels/image/cache/w1200h800wt1/product/1_48/148008_09 MIG-21 MF airfield set 1%3A48/kép.jpg?lastmod=1475774880.1482236000 http://hadmodels.cdn4.shoprenter.hu/custom/hadmodels/image/cache/w1200h800wt1/product/1_48/148008_09 MIG-21 MF airfield set 1%3A48/148008 özös képsigno.jpg?lastmod=1475774880.1482236000 Edited December 23, 2016 by exdraken
Jure Miljevic
Hi Su-22 certainly is much larger plane, Exdraken. But in absence of radar a tip of Su-22's nose cone is mere 615 mm in front of intake ring. On MiG-21 PF radome sticks out nearly twice that distance. Cheers Jure Jure, you definitely have a point here ! I will upload some photos of respective part on a Kopro Su-22 and an Eduard mig-21 SMT (same nose as MF )
exdraken
as promised, some photos: the intake center is ~ at the same depth... with said Quickboost intake cover: of course I cannot fit it on top of the MIGs radom, but for reference on diameter being surely on the correct axis here: and the last one.. maybe it could work but comparing it with the one from HAD, it looks very different! hope this was of help, might be easier to scratch bukld the intake ring with some putty.... perfect plastic putty comes to my mind! best regards, Werner Edited December 24, 2016 by exdraken
Jure Miljevic
Hi Nice Warsaw Pact section of your glass cabinet, Werner. I have always felt Su-7, Su-17 and their export version were somewhat underappreciated combat airplanes. I usually took few snapshots of Polish Su-22s on Airpower meetings in Zeltweg, but never a proper walk-around. I planed to remedy situation last September and was a bit disappointed when none appeared. Cheers Jure
