HP42 Posted December 26, 2016 Share Posted December 26, 2016 I must say I'm really enjoying looking at these diorama pictures and the control tower is sublime. I'd love to see these buildings as a complete museum exhibit with an entire airfield, I know you'd need a hangar in it's own right but it would be fabulous! I've seen the 'freestyle' RAF Topsey in Cosford (was there the other day looking at it, I see more on every visit) and there's a pretty good if condensed attempt at Deenthorpe in the Museum of the 8th Air Force in Savannah, Georgia. adey m Posted December 30, 2016 Author Share Posted December 30, 2016 (edited) 1/72 AIRFIX BRISTOL BLOODHOUND MK 1 ( this kit first released in 1960 ) AIRFIX Bloodhound Mark 1 with scratch built launch pad equipment. This kit came with the AIRFIX Hercules that my dad bought me for my Birthday in 1970........I wish I still had the Hercules too............... Here I am off to investigate a Bloodhound Mark 1 launch control building and the missile launch pads.. The Bloodhound MK 1 was a fixed missile system which required permanent facilities which were integrated with the UK air defence system. The Bloodhound Squadrons were sited down the eastern side of England and each had 32 launch pads divided into two independent units of 16 missiles each. They were usually sited on disused wartime airfields and provided defence for V Bomber airfields and Thor missile bases. These Bloodhounds are seen defending the Valiant base at RAF Marham. Has he taken that bloomin picture yet, it's bleedin perishin out here ......... That dog has been rolling about in the grass....... A scale Bloodhound Mk 1 launch pad with information obtained from my site visits to disused bases. The original Landrover from my 1970 AIRFIX Bloodhound set. Looking at that and the Basset makes you realise just what a wonderful variety of aircraft the RAF used in this era. MK 1 ( this kit first released in 1968 ) My 1/72 AIRFIX Hawker Siddeley Dominie T Mk1 kit of 1968 vintage in the training colour scheme that it may have worn if the red, white and grey scheme had not been introduced. This model has " AIRFIX PRODUCTS 1968" moulded inside one of the wings. It is completely brush painted as I do not have an airbrush.....nor want one.
