I must say I'm really enjoying looking at these diorama pictures and the control tower is sublime. I'd love to see these buildings as a complete museum exhibit with an entire airfield, I know you'd need a hangar in it's own right but it would be fabulous! I've seen the 'freestyle' RAF Topsey in Cosford (was there the other day looking at it, I see more on every visit) and there's a pretty good if condensed attempt at Deenthorpe in the Museum of the 8th Air Force in Savannah, Georgia.

So Adey, keep going with the diorama and the piccys!

Adey those Control Tower pictures are great, really like the interiors.

I too have also built the 518 in a wartime guise.

HP42 mentions that you need a 'T2' hangar, would this be a start  . . .

looking forward to seeing more of your diorama

Great stuff Adey, really enjoyable thread - the tower interior is brilliant! And I'm learning new stuff too, I've never seen blue chocks before & I had no idea the Sunderland's beaching gear wheels could swivel!

Keep the pics coming!

One of my earliest dioramas dating from 1995.

A 1/72 Monogram RB-36 has taken a wrong exit off the runway and ended up on a narrow disused one....................

Here I am off to investigate a Bloodhound Mark 1 launch control building and the missile launch pads..

resized_c28fc26a-1a54-400c-8c76-18c6df31

The Bloodhound MK 1 was a fixed missile system which required permanent facilities which were integrated with the UK air defence system. The Bloodhound Squadrons were sited down the eastern side of England and each had 32 launch pads divided into two independent units of 16 missiles each. They were usually sited on disused wartime airfields and provided defence for V Bomber airfields and Thor missile bases. These Bloodhounds are seen defending the Valiant base at RAF Marham.

Your finished Argosy is just simply outstanding.

Looking at that and the Basset makes you realise just what a wonderful variety of aircraft the RAF used in this era.

I really like the way you've displayed your models, but your control tower is something else.

My 1/72 AIRFIX Hawker Siddeley Dominie T Mk1 kit of 1968 vintage in the training colour scheme that it may have worn if the red, white and grey scheme had not been introduced. This model has " AIRFIX PRODUCTS 1968" moulded inside one of the wings. It is completely brush painted as I do not have an airbrush.....nor want one.

Fantastic stuff Adey, inspired to finish my Argosy but it's still a long road for me yet. It was good to meet you at Newark, I will keep an eye out for you again.. Would love to see an airfield diorama at a show if possible. Love that Tower!
