To go with the diorama of all British military items used in the Afghanistan Conflict.

Not shown are the addons for the CR7 rocket pods on their way.

Got my work cut out here !

This looks a lot of work. Just up my street.

Will be keeping an eye on this build, got a Hasegawa 1/48th AV-8B on my to do list so will be interested in how the kit generally goes together.

All will be well. Unless I start moaning :phew:

OK with the scale David Parkin is swapping them out..

Thanks for the offer on the Model Alliance. Will PM you. Seems the one I am after has been very popular. I have looked, it seem, every where.

if you look for Lucy and Michelle, (did not think of those before...)

there is another problem with those... as one of them is of scale...and Model Alliance printed a replacement long after the release.... hard to come by actually!

wonder why nobody else jumped on these markings!

Where did you get the CR7 Rocket Pods? I have MA retirement decals, I might even have Michelle somewhere as I was going to do that but changed my mind. I have a hunt around, if I find them they are yours.

I'll be watching this one with interest as I have a Hasegawa Gr.7 in operation Telic guise at the decalling stage. I too am using Flightpath Paveway 2's & Model Alliance decals but mine will be in flight with a custom made pilot. The Paveways are beautiful, the decals not so great.

Not sure if you've built the Hasegawa kit before but it's obviously complex and takes some care here and there.

Good luck!

They are the LAU-5002 and 5003 rocket pods. Both used according to Belcher Bits for CR5 and CR7. Mentioned this as on the packet it says for CF5 weapons.

I got my from Aviation Megastore. To embarrassed to say how much I paid mostly delivery. But I did ask Belcher for a quote unfortunately they were slow and came back with a quote to late.

Cost of item and delivery from Canada was quoted around £20 sterling.

Thanks for your offer that is very kind.

Getting me worried David :yikes:  No not built it before. Also as just a few days into it I can see it is complex.

Worrying as apart om looking at a Harrier have to admit not knowing much about them. Although that seems

to be changing by the hour.

But finished recently the Hasegawa Seaking, simple, but not when you add David Parkin's Flightpath PE (hardly

PE more like thick metal) which is very complex indeed . Hope that is enough to get me through.

Time will tell.  :hmmm:

You could do worse than take a look though Gary Wickham's site and follow the links to his gallery and then to the build of his Hasegawa AV-8B. (I can't work out how to link directly to the page as his site does some fancy frames stuff.)

Although it was done a while a go, it's an excellent model and has lots of pointers to the potential pitfalls around assembly of the deck/engine access panel area.

Another essential resource is the Harrier SIG run by Dave and his merry men. Nick Greenall did some indispensable guides of how to build a Harrier in 1:48, 1:72 etc which are well illustrated with high quality pictures & diagrams.

Be careful though. Harriers are addictive. :)

Kirk

PS/ There is a new seat in all that resin isn't there? Base kit only provides the US Stencel seat and not the M-B Mk.12. Oh, and search for "Prime Portal" for great walkarounds of the GR7 and T10.

Thanks Kirk that the information. So many experts on the Harrier getting worried about this build.

Perhaps i should re-name it with a bit of luck you'll get there.

Nice find on the CRV-7 pods. I suspect there will be many jumping on that link.

Think it was a Dave Fleming who gave me the info and where to buy on the pods.

Would not have had a clue..

Slow progress due to Christmas.

Now back in flow away from 4 grandsons one with an uggggg! electric guitar.

Forgot to mention. The brown arm on the pilot is from another set. The one supplied would have entailed a hole in the canopy- not really an option :tease:

Just a couple of observations Laurie (which are largely criticisms of the aftermarket stuff and not your modelling):

  • The cockpit sidewall as supplied is missing a couple of vertical "frames" (I put these in inverted commas because they are not really structural as such) and the right side cockpit conditioning system vent.
  • The photo etch floor detail is made up. The real thing has a single reinforced join line offset to the left of centre (I call it the Suzanne Vega strip) and a quite large bulged cover to the roll actuator under the pilot's right calf. All this is invisible with the pilot in place of course...
  • The display screens in the photo etch show the weapons display (the image that it roughly like an aircraft wing) and the radar display - which was not applicable to the radar-less UK aircraft.
  • Nose wheel bay is much too shallow - although the detail is kinda OK.
  • The circular "blob" on the left hand side of the seat bulkhead is a pressure regulator vessel. It sticks out quite a bit and is gloss black in finish. The connectors on its forward face are much too small to model but are natural metal finish (alloy I think)
  • Your seat harness extension should run from the obvious place on the shoulders to the green back pad. There are then a couple of thin blue webs which run to and from a rectangular-ish block close to the edges of the tubular assembly just below the parachute box. (This is the harness retraction unit.)

Please feel free to ignore all this. I'm just chipping in on behalf of the (fictitious) Harrier Pedants' Society. Your model will look quite superb without attending to any of this but I don't want to find out when it's too late if these are the sort of things you like to tweak.

Cheers,

Kirk

Very kind of you to reply Kirk.  Regret I am not a tweaker. But I am sure your points will be welcome to someone who is.

At 78 year old I do not have the time to spare !  I am on a mission to produce a diorama with all UK military equipment and aircraft used.

About two thirds through. About 10 out of 16 plus a diorama to finish.

More progress for which is a very nice model.  this is my 3rd Hasegawa model and they are very nice to build.

Only gripe is their instructions are very reserved in their detail. But only a small gripe :smartass:

Progress. And while waiting for Tamiya cement to cure a bit of writing.

During the Falklands war I listened with trepidation to all that was going on.

The Pilots with there little aircraft did a fantastic job and all off a Carrier.

One a very small one.

Laurie

Oh Harrier Harrier you just fly like a bird
a blast of air & you perform the absurd

my favourite with those just lovable wings
and so up down with a side to side swing

you float on air and, to some, much feared
but to me, Harrier, you are just my little Shar

OK this one is a MK7 but still applies.
