Thanks chaps. Bit of progress over the last couple of weeks; Dark grey filter on the hull; Installed secondary armament; Bow, needs some plates on the two positions portside shown on the deck where no guns were installed; Forward superstructure, needs a bit of touch up; Aft superstructure; Quarterdeck; Really liking the North Star guns! Built and sprayed the WEM PE torpedo net shelves and davits for later fitting; And added the coal scuttles; Need to finish the searchlights next so I can install and add the boat decks over the superstructure. Thanks for looking. Cheers Nick Edited July 22, 2017 by Nick Charnock Flickr pics

Rob 1
This is looking very intriguing - there's more complexity in the superstructure than I would have thought, looks good.

That's one of the things I love about doing ships like this, when you do the research you learn about all the complexities of the original. Nick C
Carried on adding detail and bits and bobs; I punched out some discs in tin foil for the searchlights, not 100% sure if it's a bit 'overbright' for the scale but we'll see; Signal lamp added to the foremast; And searchlights and handrails to the main mast; Added 'cable' to the various reels with grey cotton, again not sure if it's over scale but it looks ok with the reels on the ship; Building up details on the upper deck; None of the references I've found show hand rails around the signal flag lockers and edges of the deckhouse below but it seems unlikely those edge would be unprotected so I added railings - anybody know if that's correct? She's starting to come together now, funnels and finishing the launches next! Cheers Nick
Ray S
Hello Nick, great work on my favourite ship! I think all logic suggests that railings would be there, I would imagine there would be a lot of traffic there so for safety sake I would say you are correct. One to remember next time I do this one. Ray Cheers Ray, did seem to make sense!! Bit more progress today; Aft funnel fitted; Admiral walk installed; And the Admirals day cabin (from the WEM set) after glazing with acetate sheet; Glazed the wheel house; And fitted the fore funnel, searchlights and wheelhouse; Thanks for looking. Little bit of progress to report; Boats finished; Launches nearly done, drilled the ventilators and funnel tops out (badly), added the wheels from the WEM set and washed the wheel house with burnt sienna oil to try to get a varnished wood look. The wheel house roofs will be fitted after they've been glazed; And made a pillar for the ships wheel from the WEM set which is completely missing from the trumpeter kit; Cheers Nick

Nick C
Back from hols so on with Dreadnought! Detailed bits and bobs going on; Compass and ships wheel fitted; Then the wheel house roof/compass platform; And then the rails with canvas covers, oddly the WEM set has covers on the compass platform but not the bridge wings so I borrowed the 1915 compass platform rails with covers; Stretch sprue con-rods fitted to turret guns (thanks Michael M for the reminder ); Boats stacked ready for fitting; And the launches finished with glazed wheelhouses and stretched sprue 'masts'; And started on the stays for the aft funnel - fine Uschi line - hard to see, may be too fine! And fitted the boats either side of the fore funnel as the funnel stays pass over them - must have been difficult to stow them on the real ship; Cheers Nick

Nick C
More details added this weekend; Compass platform first - I'm not too keen on the etch chart table so I built a new one with more 3D legs; Added a chart, it's a reduction of one of the Solent of tinternet and printed on my ink jet at home, came out better than I thought!; Then made a 'glass' cover; Looks a bit rough up close but installed I think it's ok. Also fitted at are the life rings and search lights; And the awning support cable, bridge finished; Foremast fitted next; And a dry fit of the turrets boats and main mast to see how she's going to look; And a bit of work on the forward deck, anchor chains - they're a bit over size but never mind; Made up the anchoring chain securing chains (I'm sure someone will tell me the technical name) from the WEM set with little plasticard blocked for the shackles And installed on the anchor chains; Lots of little bits yet to do but she's taking shape now. Thanks for looking, Cheers Nick
