PhantomBigStu
I may well have my two phantoms on the bench plus my lanc, but aside from finishing off my MTO GB projects mojo has been at a premium, hopefully this will spark it, not yet done a Japanese a/c. Apologies for the stock image, too lazy to go and grap my phone from downstairs Edited December 29, 2016 by PhantomBigStu
Nomis61
Hi, I'd like to see this. Mind if I pull up a chair and settle in? Like to see sparks fly Are you doing all the aircraft in one go? Simon
helios16v
Nice! I'm currently building a SBD-3 Dauntless flown by LT Dickenson / RM1 Miller during the Pearl Harbor attack for a 75th Anniversary GB on another site. Dauntless 6-S-9 was shot down during a scouting run for the impending arrival of the USS Enterprise when the attack happened.
PhantomBigStu
Nice shot of the contents sans paint/glue, now which one to start first? Edited December 6, 2016 by PhantomBigStu

Seen Ghosts of Pearl Harbour on National Geographic? No I haven't, don't have Nat Geo on my tv, though my parents one does I don't get many opportunities where I'm in charge of the remote.... anyway decided to just go with the first one in the instructions so its one with the p-40
Stew Dapple
Yeah, go Stu! I think you'll tear through the P-40 and the Zero, the Kate is a much more complex kit but I don't think you'll have any problems with it. Cheers, Stew

PhantomBigStu
Zero now gone for priming, my hope this would rekindle my mojo has come through, for the first time in a couple of weeks I'm working on my lanc and phantom , also painted up some of the bits and bobs
PhantomBigStu
coat of paint is on, lifecolour neautral grey, then a custom mix for the IJN Amber (thanks to Nick Millman for the help with that)

PhantomBigStu
Nope that's good old humbrol 155, reminds me I'd better get back to these, didn't work on them yesterday one of my phantoms taken over
PhantomBigStu
Better crack on if I want to finish these this year, started the Kate today, quite a lot going on in that pit
PhantomBigStu
primed, now the fun bit, apparently should not be all over green as per the instructions but blotched green over the amber, may dry brushing it on with overly wet brush see what happens
PhantomBigStu
Got back to working on these, 4 little pilots in IJN uniforms and one little George Welch in mess uniform..... also attempted the blotched green on the kate. not happy with it, can see it was brushed on before I mess with it Edited December 18, 2016 by PhantomBigStu
Blitz23
Maybe a Natural metal colour underneath on the kate perhaps, the blotched paintwork is heading in the right direction.
PhantomBigStu
Missed the fact I had painted in all over IJN amber as base in between updates
PhantomBigStu
p-40 is ready for decalling, which will wait till the others catch up, zero will join tommorow, though not sure about the kate, not happy with the paintwork, may just opt to make it solid green as pearl harbour kates are often erroneously depicted
PhantomBigStu
Zero not ready for decalling thanks to my incompetence, painted the kates canopy amber not green so put it in the paint stripper to soften the paint, only problem being I picked the zero's canopy up, so I have to paint it again
PhantomBigStu
Well today was a grand success, wrecked the Kate's cowling so there will be only 2 completed models from this set...
PhantomBigStu
Decals are on , been asked to not hide upstairs over the holidays, so put them on the dining room table, might make a habit, easier than doing it at the bench or my desk Edited December 24, 2016 by PhantomBigStu

PhantomBigStu
Zero is done, just the p-40 needs some fiddling to get the exhausts to fit Edited December 28, 2016 by PhantomBigStu
