Hobbyboss did make a “D” but i think its out of production.

But after doing some checking of box contents you might want to try and find one as the fuselage in the E/F kit has been molded new with the exhausts relevant to that model which are a different shape to those on earlier models. Mind you the exhausts on earlier models are circular so could be scratch built quite easily. The Fujimi E/F comes with both types of exhaust.

The not so good point about this STGB is the small number of kits of this machine for a start, and the the smaller number of those available.

I'll go for Fujimi, as it's not so hard to source it in Japan. I wish I was still in Taiwan!

Talking about opinions, what is the consensus about this kit?

So, Japanese, or Swedish?

I have 16 months to sort it out so im not worried just yet. But thanks for the help.

Dennis if you can't find a "D" I will try to find some good quality close up pictures to show the differences, I may even start a build to do a conversion myself and then you can see how I get on and we can all swap ideas.

I know what you mean Antoine, they are bot the easiest to find but I often see them second hand at model shows.

The Fujimi is an excellent kit, with the Hobby Boss ones a quite close second and the old Airfix one bringing up the rear.

As for your markings choice I like them both, but if I could only build one I think I would go Japanese but it would be a tough choice to make.

Oh, yes!!! How could I miss this? Of course I'm in. The 107-II was mycket first aviation love... The only problem is that I probably will build one or two before the GB will start... But I will build at least one 1/72 Swedish one, either one from the Air Force or one from the Marines. Probably Fujimi, maybe Hobbycraft. I'll be back.

A teaser, an Academy 1/48 KV-107-II that I built a few years ago. My build will be something like this. DSC_0410.jpg

Very glad to have you Bjorn.

I love your Academy HKP4,, I know a lot of people prefer the splinter camo (I like it too) but I really like the single colour version, especially if they have dayglo patches. I used to overhaul the Gnomes for these beauties so I have a small connection to them.

I'm really looking forward to seeing which scheme you go with.

Craig.

I know I have a Fujimi kit somewhere in the stash, but it might take a while to find it. Good job we have a little time to get organised.

In the meantime, I have got the decals out. I think this is the one I'll do,

ch46 1

ch46 2

I'll have to get up in the loft and find the kit....

Now that is a very nice scheme Smudge.

The bright red against the engine grey looks really good.

Just realized were going to running parallel builds. I start four weeks after you.

Indeed we will.

We had both better get our skates on with our builds as I'm signed up for your too!

Thank you, yes I think it is rather smart.

I wonder what the role of these 'choppers is (was), and how does it compare to our own recently defunct military SAR Sea Kings and the old Wessex and Whirlwinds. Would they be available to rescue holidaymakers blown out to sea on their inflatable crocodiles etc, or was their role rather more military in its focus?

I know we have a few Yanks on the forum, so maybe someone will enlighten me.

Cheers.

The fujimi kit is great and the only issue is the long seam under the fuselage. Strengthen it with some plastic card strip on the inside before you join the halves and you are up and running.

I saw one at the southwell show for £6 but didn't buy it! big mistake

I believe they were used for rescue duties for the base and surrounding area but they were not used in the same way as our SAR helos as I don't think they carried the same range of specialist equipment in terms of radar etc. They did carry stretchers and medical equipment though.

Missed out there Andy!

I don't think I've ever seen one that cheap, we will have to keep our eyes peeled at some shows next year.

I've managed to lay my hands on a Fujimi kit with the huge tanks on the undercarriage sponsons. I need to find another as I'm planning on building Japanese and Swedish versions.

There are fifteen months to wait so I reckon I'll be able to source one in that time. I might even build an Airfix one in the meantime.

Good job finding one so quickly.

I want to do both JASDF  and Swedish ones too, might build one next year after I've got through a couple of other projects, but which one!

By the way, any good paper references there?

Surprisingly little Antoine.

There is an excellent photo reference on US versions by Landing Zone Publications (a French company) and there is an issue of the Famous Aircraft Of The World by Burin Do on all versions including the KV-107. Strangely enough even Squadron haven't done an "in action" on the type.

There are also a few biographies by USMC pilots about there service in Vietnam as well.
