Dave Fleming
In the cockpit? Plywood. The cockpit side panels were plywood. http://users.skynet.be/fa233213/En/RealAircrafts/Nieuport/Nie23Cockpit1.html Elsewhere would be clear linen, with perhaps the occasional bleed of aluminium (more a dark stain) Edited November 26, 2016 by Dave Fleming

The side panels were made by laminating narrow strips of ply to form the asymmetrically bulged sides. Probably not all that obvious in 1/72 though. (Edit: In addition - From the rear of the shaped panels to the tail the interior is wooden frame with fabric. As the Nie-17 fabric was clear doped for the shrink coats the interior would remain fabric colour, not aluminium.) BallsBuster
Thank you very much. So, I understand the aluminum dope did not seep through and the internal surface remained linen.
Paul Thompson
Clear doped linen, except the wooden and metal bits Yup. For other details, this link takes you to a page of 3D renders by Mark Miller on the WWI Modelling Page site: http://www.wwi-models.org/app/sbj/srch/Macn.php?action=uModelList&subjId=234 . Lots of good stuff there. Paul. Edit - Just checked the link and it only takes you to the Nie.17 page. Scroll down the list of names on the right until you find the 2nd Miller entry. That should do it. Edited November 27, 2016 by Paul Thompson

melvyn hiscock
From memory (and from over 20 years ago) the paneling on the side of the N17 is not ply but strips of wood, which, from memory, are either of holly or cherry.
