AlexN
Interesting: the box art shows the E-4 with square canopy - and the thumbnail profile on the left the E-4(?) with the rounded E-3 canopy. I built my old one using the latter because I thought that it looked nicer . I still do, too. A.

Something similar like youtube for videos. If it wasn't it would have been closed down very fast and you have to pay for downloads or you have to be registrated to make a collection. It's an online libary and a good thing, I think, for people with less money or space limits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scribd P.s: At least to say its a platform to find books, that are long out of print/order. Spookytooth
Looking forward to this one John, I never saw one done when I was a kid so I`re drag a comfy chair and watch patiently from the back row. Simon.
Tomoshenko
Good stuff Johnny, will be interesting and eventful no doubt. Looking forward to seeing what you make of her - has a little Jeremy Clarkson about it in a sort of "what could possibly go wrong" sort of way. I built this kit many Earth Cycles ago when I was knee high to a grasshopper. I do like the yellow nosed "you-know-what" schemes. By the way I have the Xtradecal swastika sheet. Designed for 1/72 - 1/48, but does have a couple of large swastikas on it. Let me know what size you require, may be in luck.
Phil Lewis
I don't know, I spend a weekend at SMW and come back to to find you've started without me Built this kit about 24 years ago. Looking forward to the build John. One thing to check for if using the squared off canopy is the angle of the slope on the rear glazing. You may need to shim it if it is the same as mine. Spotted what you did with the reference book there It does help if you use references for the correct version of 109 Edited November 14, 2016 by Phil Lewis Clarification :)

The Spadgent
Thanks for the kind words guys. Tomo, I might just take you up on that decal offer. I'll measure up and get in touch. (Thanks) Any hoo enough talk and more plastic. I don't know how I managed it but I got a few hours in the cave after work. (Must have been brownie points for hacking the Ivy to shreds on Sunday. look what you gone made me do Tony, he of the brass pipe bending society. All I went in for was Tamiya gloss. I thought I could put it to good use on this bit. looks like spark plugs on all the pics I have so I'm running with it. I have seen some others paint the kit up as is and it's not bad, but I think we can take it up a step. And after watching Tony's (The Barron) Barra build this weekend I was itching to try a bit O' brass action. so off with their heads! tidied up ready for pipe. pipe bent into place, Im happy but I think I need to make a Jig to bend around, I got a few creases doing this in my record vice in the cellar. a tad over kill. i decided to make the wires from old computer cable, stripped and twisted. I covered them in super glue to stop fraying. stuck on, I lead the wires just down under the cowl and I know you will never see them but something didn't look right so.... off they come. I decided to add some basic joining points where my sparkies enter the engine and lead the wires to them. If you then look down the gap in the cowl there is something to see that kind of makes sense. these were cut from an old 1/72 sprew. there are 12 in all. the first two looked pretty good. happy with that, on with the rest of 'em. not entirely accurate but a cursory glance down and I think it'll be enough. I wanted to end on a high so I sanded this bit. and popped it on and let the whole lot dry and there we are. I'm pooped so it's wooden hills for me. thanks for your time and help. Sgt.Squarehead
"Yellow nosed blighters!" surely? Looking great, Jonny! I have a very second-hand kit in the collection, 'complete' with photocopied instructions. It looks like the original box and is in the old light-blue plastic o' 'yesteryear', and is awaiting its turn with the 1/24 Airfix Hurricane and Spitfire (I flogged the Harrier and Ju 87 in a moment of weakness). The 1/24 FW 190 A (Wilde Sau boxing) is ahead of them - or at least, is in a small-zip-lock-bag-of-bits-ready-for-flash-cleaning-ahead of them. Cheers, Alex <-- not a Bf 109 E (or any other variant)
The Spadgent
Thanks guys for all the comments, I'm glad this kit seems to be stirring up the dust. I got a few hours last night at the bench but first up look what I managed to get from the bay. it's old and all in black and white but what a great book for Modelling this plane, honestly it's a doosie. It has helped already with some engine decisions. not only does it have a great ref section and history but at the rear it's basically a how to, (an old how to) but a how to detail the Airfix kit and avoid pitfalls. Amazing. and don't get me started on how good and musty it smells. asaanyway. first up the book points out that this bit in the middle is purely for the electric motor. So Dexter to the rescue. The hollow needs filling and the last three cylinders had to be re instated. So plasticard fillers and D shapes added. in the pic the angle looks off but it's actually ok. While all that dried I checked out the swastika size on the tail. Another helper from the book from 1972. it looks to me like it's about 1.5cm Tomo, I'm looking at you. After drying I decided I'm only going to have the top half of the engine visible. So the other sparking wires got added and I bent the brass pipe into shape and all that got glued on. Bits got cut off the sprues and sanded, this is how I left it. There is a little flap on the top cowl that looks like it belongs on the bottom cowl but flaps down for maintenance. I'm going to add that. Still thinking about opening up the lower half. But probably not, I think it'll look better top side only. I'm judging a Game art competition at the NEC in Brum for the next three days so plastic will have to take a back seat I'm afraid. possible I'll get some Sunday action? I'll try and keep up with you all while I'm busy doing my very best Mary Berry impression. happy modelling. Johnny soggy bottom. AlexN
Well done on acquiring that book, Johnny - it was a very useful compendium. All the best for your judging. The (admittedly restrcted) parts of the forum that I frequent seem to have gone really quiet - almost as though some of you bods are hibernating . TonyTiger66
Really superb progress John. I really like the spark plug leads and brass rail . Glad you got hold of a copy of the book. I know what you mean about that musty old smell. I'm a fan of 'real' books, I jlike it when they have a bit of ´patina' and a nice nostalgic pong about them . Have an enjoyable time at the good old NEC. ATB TonyT

I like a man with a pipe. yuk yuk. Thats how it starts, with a single part, and next thing you know you're on 20 bends a day and eyeing up the inventory at Eileen's Emporium for something stronger... Is is that a shiny new board as well? Something tells me that engine won't be the last bit o' brass we see flashed here. Top stuff! Tony
