"yellow nosed baskets six o'clock high" 1/24 Messerschmitt bf 109-E by Airfix

Recommended Posts

Having one of these kits on the go myself, which I'm throwing everything and the kitchen sink at to bring it up to scratch, I'm really enjoying your build of this old classic Airfix Emil. Love it! You are doing a grand job Sir! :clap2:

I love these old Airfix Superkits and have dozens in the stash. This build illustrates perfectly just how well these kit scrub up with some TLC. I think we should let you loose on the Stuka!

Best regards;
Steve

I think your paint job is excellent. Weathering is about taste and your interpretation. The planes are only new for the first day off the assembly line. After that, the elements, maintenance, and wear/tear take their toll and every pristine paint job changes daily into something else. It's up to you what that something else becomes. Your 109 is beautiful and you are doing great. I am enjoying your show!

I would like to see you have a stab at the 1/24 Hurricane of Stuka.

Martian

I bought the Hurri in the Debhanams sale last year. But I'll give a smallerer kit a blast next me thinks. :D

I can only add to the positivity count John.

Kudos to you for sticking to your vision, it looks absolutely smashing :)!

Your advice on airbrushes, to me, last year, absolutely changed my whole approach to painting. Boosted the old enjoyment rating ten fold!

This chap knows his airbrushes gents, and this model is becoming a bit of a show piece for his skills :thumbsup2: .

Custard time soon? :D

All the best

Not much left now build wise. I decided to get the remaining parts and tally up what needs doing while I set up a top coat area. ( side table and a big box )

here's pretty much the bits n bobs. Ooh the belts remember them? :giles:

There are more bits in the box, the bits you snap off! So I'll leave them till right at the end.

I set up the spray area and blasted the old girl ready for decals. Hopefully I'll get them on tomorrow but we're off to a late panto with the kids "Dick Whittington" so who knows?

excuse the rubbish pic, the main cave light is bobbins. I need to let that dry now so it's wooden hills time for me.  :sleep_1:One last snap for @CedB I popped frank. next to the two Stearman guys.

How about these two and then pretend you are Don Taylor? :)

Sounds like a reference to The Final Countdown.

You'll need to do the USS Nimitz too if that's the case :D

Thanks for the lovely comments guys. I'm out of likes again, I'm sure fifty isn't the right number you know.  ally hoo. I got a little done this morning before the panto. "Oh yes I did" etc.:tumble:

for some reason I didn't quite fancy decals even though the top coat had dried nicely so I decided to make ze bomb.:wicked:

The first fins where a disaster so I've found that making test templates out of thin card is easier than plastic.

CB09B76E-63A4-4439-AAFB-389894B31898_zpslagmhknm

and less expensive so you can make as many mistakes as you like. See...

:whistle: eventually though we have four good to go fins made of plastic.:rambo:

two glued.

looking good so I popped the other two on and added a little filling shim for an unsightly gap that appeared.

a bit wonky at the top but I'll let that dry and sand it off. I thought I'd pop some decals on before the panto. Note to self NEVER underestimate a large decal. They tear too, fortunately I wiggled the torn cross into shape smothered on micro sol and let it dry.

I only managed the wing and fuselage ones but coming back tonight the micro sol has done wonders.

also look who got a crafty sand.

5BBA73D3-A0DA-4E3E-99CD-5E9D4E173485_zpsovdqzqoc

that'll do for tonight. More decals tomorrow as I have a sneaky hour.

see you then. Thanks for popping in.

Happy Modelling you guys.

Johnny decal.
