speedbird
Hi guys, I have decided to give military modeling a break for a while and thought I'd like to try building some classic airliners. Not knowing much about what's out there I thought I'd ask in here what's the best 1.144 kit for a British Airways 707?
Skodadriver
I'm not a 707 expert and anything I say is subject to correction by those more knowledgable. BA flew two versions of the 707 - the -336B/C and the -436 both of which were inherited from BOAC. The best 707 kits by a long shot are by Authentic Airliners who make both versions. Unfortunately they are currently listed as out of stock but no doubt Kurt will run another batch in due course. Welsh Models make a rather nice vacform/resin -336 with BOAC decals. The venerable Airfix kit can be turned into a decent-436 although I think you need to increase the height of the fin and the engines are very poor. Minicraft produced a range of 707s which had various accuracy issues particularly around the cockpit. The kit was issued as a -436 with BA decals and decent Conway engines. If you can find one it's not a bad kit but you MUST re-work the cockpit either by filling and sanding or by using a replacement after-market cockpit section. The Revell kit is best avoided. The same plastic has been issued in various guises, usually incorrect, but insofar as it represents anything it's the early short bodied 707 and you couldn't produce an accurate BA aircraft from it without extensive surgery. Turbofan
Hi Speed bird, Well as Dave has said the best would have to be an Authentic Airliners 707-320B or 420 with the 26 decal sheet. Here are the links. http://www.authentic-airliners.de/epages/64205758.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/64205758/Products/K144-17 http://www.authentic-airliners.de/epages/64205758.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/64205758/Products/K144-44 http://www.26decals.com/epages/62035508.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62035508/Products/STS44196 I have built the AA kit as BA Cargo and can recommend it! The Roden kit is a 720.
