I'm back, I've been tied up with stuff for a while, I've still found time to do a bit of building -dinos, of course, but also something a bit different... more to follow somewhere else.

I started this kit while still finishing off the Brachiosaurous diorama - I thought it was sensible to do the bases simultaneously so they would match up. I also wanted to make a start at building something which is why I did the baby.

Here are the sprues plus the partly started base and baby

Here's Mama Chasmosaurus together and painted in Revell’s Beige as base coat

Then a thinned coat of Humbrol 102, Army Green, stippled on the upper surfaces then dry-brushed with a lightened version of same

I decided that they needed to be brighter and more green so as Stix only had some Revell Leaf Green I thinned it and stippled on in places

I'm not entirely satisfied and think they should be darker, comments welcomed as ever!

I wondered where you'd gone, but now I'm glad to see you back at the bench

Nice job so far! Love the job you did on the tree; as for Chasmie and son, if you want to get them darker,  a dark grey wash should do (I would do that   )

Ciao

Very nice Mrs P. Don't forget the turtle and lizard ! :)

Thanks and good point, I've done the tortoise (turtle) but need some brighter colours for the lizard.

sorry to tune in and learn of the family loss Mr and Mrs Stix

On a separate but maybe poorly timed note, let me just say how good your painting results are. I am guessing its because you are using brushes as opposed to my airbrush approach to dino's

keep up the superb prehistoric work when life at home next permits given the present situation

with my condolences - John & Helen

Thanks both. Really appreciate it. Your builds are coming along nicely and make interesting viewing.

Well, I've finally completed the kit. Stix thought I should post it on the Diorama section, but I wanted to keep everything together.

You may spot the  Archaeopteryx, It  should really belong in the Brachiosaurus kit, but I decided the tree was the perfect home for it.The lizard has moved to the other kit for safety! Tortoise has stayed. I know the trees in the background should be conifers, Stix wanted to use his background...

Hope you like them, comments welcomed, I know the archeopteryx is shiny, but it's really iridescence!

:wow: Stunning!

I'm sure Stix has already mentioned it, but what kind of paper are you using to print the background on? The only attempt I did turned out to be too glossy... :(

Cheers giemme! I've just checked and Stix says it was just normal printer paper, sometimes he uses a heavier paper, but this was a 'rush' job apparently

Great job , I love the stripes and colour variation on the skin .

Thanks, you have started something really good with that pilot's bust. - I just build very simple stuff. I still think the Chases' are a touch pale, but the colours seem to have changed depending on the photograph, they seem darker on the ones with the white background... As I always say though, nobody really knows what colour they were! :)

Thanks I do a lot of sculpting but I'm also a bit obsessive when it comes to accuracy . :suicide:

The Colours of Dinosaurs are probably another one of those subjects you could take an entire thread over . I can see it now ... just like the WW2 German colours ! :undecided:

I think you did a fantastic job they look very natural .

Cheers ,Jim.

Cheers Jim, I understand what you mean about obsession, I'm not skillful enough to get things just how I really want them, but I'm beginning to accept that I've got to be patient and practise if I'm going to improve. Most of the colours I use are from Stix's Tank collection - so mine are really  WW2 German Dinos!!!

Mrs Plastix, condolences to you and Mr Stix - I think all here know it's a difficult time for you both.

Cracking diorama though, the work you've done on the kit is excellent to my eyes! And the backdrop is very realistic, too.

:thumbsup2:
