Hi All,

Well when I started late I did'nt think I would be the third finisher. Here's Humphry in May 1982 loaded up on HMS Antrim flight deck and ready to attack the Agentine Sub 'Santa Fe'. This being the first sub attacked by a Helecopter and the First Sub sunk in a hostile action since WWII.

Kit by Italeri 1/48 with main rotor fold knuckels and blade support from Scale Warships. All other modifications from scratch include full ASW interior, weapons racks, folded tail and cockpit interior. Decals from the kit and paint by Xtracolour.

Many thanks for Enzo and Heloman for hosing the GB and to all those contributing knowledge and ideas during the course of the build. Especially useful was the reference to the book 'Down South' by Chris Parry which I read during the course of the build and allowed me to get the final configuration correct.

WIP build thread is hereHumphry

Like most Helicopters there is nowhere to touch without breaking bits off so it is glued and pinned to the base.

Cheers

Colin

Hello

1/72 Westland Wessex 60 series 1

Italeri kit with windows modified for a Wessex 60.  Intake grill also opened up as These were removed for North Sea flying; I believe it was because they could ice up and block the intakes but not certain of that.

Detailed with Eduard photo etch and brass rod & wire.  Decals are from two S&M sets (for the Bristow & BP logo), the registration is from an RAF letter set and the stencils are a fish mash from my spares.

Model represents C/N wa560, G-ATSC as operated by Bristows from North Denes.  For info, in 1976 this aircraft ditched in the North Sea shortly after takeoff from West Sole gas rig platform C, after both engines stopped due to ingestion of the not removed engine intake covers, 14 occupants, thankfully no casualties.

Hi all,

This is my final reveal for the Italeri 1/72 Wessex UH 5 Helicopter. This kit came in a 2 in 1 with a 1/72 Harrier as part of the Italeri Falklands War Anniversary set.

Build Summary

I had a lot of fun with this one. It has been painted using Humbrol and Tamiya Enamels. Weathering is done in the form of preshading with highlighting the panel lines with a Copic Marker and minor dirt marks using Tamiya Panel Line Accent. I did scribe in a few panel lines and details as well. No scratch building was done. Some silvering occured on on one of the decals with the Helicopter number as can be seen in the photos, but apart from that I did not have any major issues. The exhausts are of a different colour as well, this is just personal choice. As always accuracy is never my concern, the build and paint job however are. The canopy is also not my best job, but hey live and learn.

Westland Wessex HU Mk5 XT457 C/B 845 NAS, HMS Bulwark 1966. My cab.

So four month long slog and maybe I laboured on the deatil but I knew what needed replacing, adding and correcting. It's only taken me fifty years to get a model of my cab into my collection. To say the least, I'm chuffed.

Thanks to everyone in the GB for the ride.
