OllieSwan96
Hey everyone, this is going to be my first work in progress posts. So apologies if the layout changes through the build. Anyway... Started to build the kit last weekend but decided to post tonight as I'm not doing much. Cockpit went together lovely, however (as Sod's law would be) the joystick controller snapped as I was removing from the sprew. A quick search in the spares draw and I've fashioned one out of a antenna from a challenger. First modern cockpit I've built so any advice would be great! Glued the 2 halfs together and put the wings in place, looks like some fillering and sanding will be needed, but as my boss once said "quality quality quality", enjoy the photos looking forward to the rest of the build, wheel bays look full of detail

R159
It would be interested to see one of these built alongside the Airfix version... I assume this is an italieri/tamiya warbird? Does it have raised or recessed panel lines? The cockpit has come up well.
OllieSwan96
Cheers guys. It is the italieri/Tamiya kit, loads of recessed panel lines, a lot of raised detail in the wheelbase, very impressed with the kit so far. Just finished up work for the week so hopefully some more progress tonight
OllieSwan96
Hi all, Been sent upstairs by the other half (almost grounded in a way) because someone had a few too many last night, ooooops, anyway, more time to crack on. Canopy masked and fins added. Air intakes were super fiddly to install off the fuselage, so glued one after another straight onto the base, only to find out a super bad fit, a little bit of work and they wasn't too bad. The cleaned up with a fine nail file and them primed using Tamiya rattlecan primer. Started some work on the exhausts, painted using gun metals and aluminiums from Tamiya, and then made up a quick wash with gold green and black (to simulate where heat had been) then gave them a quick blast of that. (Can't quite tell on the pictures but in the light there is a greeny/gold tint. Waiting for them to dry and then going to dry brush with gold to bring out the heat effect. Thats all for today, should be some more updates over the next two days. Please give me some more tips and advice for the build!
spruecutter96
Not too sure you need a lot of tips for your build, my friend. She's coming along very nicely from what I can see. If you need some references piccies, I believe we have some in the Walk Around section on Britmodeller or - failing that - take a look at the Prime Portal sight. Good luck with the build - I've always had a real soft spot for the '29. Cheers. Chris.
OllieSwan96
Evening all, quick update, done a bit more work today, started on the landing gear and wheels, and painted the main body. XF19 was thinned down using Tamiya acrylic thinner and was given a blasting with a hairy stick for 4 coats. The camoflague was XF22 and was again painted with a hairy stick (may have to invest in a proper airbrush after Christmas). Particularly proud of the camo paint job, all free hand and no masking. Will probably need another coat tomorrow once it's dry. cheers, Oll
OllieSwan96
Quick update this evening, nose cone painted, gloss coat applied and underside decals added. Not sure how much work will be done this week, working 11 hours a day plus heavy weights at the gym, we'll just see how it goes hey.
OllieSwan96
hi all, no update for a while, been training super hard in the gym recently and haven't had a lot of time of the bench recently. Managed to get a quick hour this arvo and applied all the decals. Starting back on 13 hour days tomorrow, then training for 2 hours a night, so probably not much will be going on next week. Until next time

OllieSwan96
Hi all! Massive progress due to illness so no gym. and that's just about finished! Really enjoyed this one and feel like I'm making some good progress with skills comparing this to other models I have made. Hopefully investing in an airbrush over the next few weeks so should get some good quality finishes. Looking forward to moving on with the next build.
