A little more progress on the paintwork.

All masked up for the black stripes

A rough first coat applied

After a few coats

And done!

Just need to do the bottom and the flaps.

It's a lot of work painting these, and I was wondering if it is worth it, but all doubt was gone when I removed the masking...worth it.

Cheers

Thanks everyone!

I made a bit more progress during the week, and the model is almost ready for decals

I have painted nose checkers before, and thought I'd do it again. I used very thinly cut Tamiya tape for the masking

Update11_0196_zpsooxanujq.jpg

Applied a rough first coat of yellow

And after a couple of coats the yellow was done

And many painstaking masking, painting, masking painting cycles, it's done.

It's so much work and the results are "iffy" if you ask me.

Ah well, I'm satisfied enough with it.

Really nice results jimmy, the stripes and chequered nose look bob on from this side of the internet.

Thank everyone!

I worked on this model a bit today, and although it's not a lot of progress, I'm now at the decal stage.

I fitted the flaps and it doesn't look too bad. I definitely prefer the flaps down look, and both reference photos show this a/c with flaps down.

Then after checking and re-checking that the paint job looks good, I threw on a coat of future (or at least the closest thing to it available around here).

Update12_0187_zpszf45kxoc.jpg

I've never used future for this purpose, but if the decals take to it well, I might very well prefer it over other methods of glossing since it's super easy, and hard to mess up (as opposed to other products).

The future dries much faster than I thought, but I will still leave it to dry fully overnight.

Hi everyone.

I've finished placing the decals tonight.

Update13_0183_zpsypnzqvf7.jpg

The Microscale decals are superb, the best I've worked with. The only thing I can fault it for is the transparency, which wouldn't be an issue if it weren't going over invasion stripes.

I also gave it a coat of matt varnish, but I don't have a photo at the moment.

Hi all.

I've finished the matt varnishing earlier in the week (no photo at the moment).

I've also finished some bits n bobs that need to go on. I also still need to apply some light weathering, but I expect my next post will be of the completed model.

Here's the wheel bays, on lightly weathered, the other not (for comparison)

And the mentioned fiddly bits. I'm still deciding whether or not to use the drop tanks.

Until next time.

Hi all.

I've finally completed "Little Duckfoot"!

I must say it is a nice little kit. Great quality, good/reasonable accuracy and good fit. Probably not THE best P-51B in 1/72 scale, but a great contender in my opinion. I'll definitely build one again.

It is also my favorite Mustang built so far.
