skyradial51
This is an old kit but a good one one, except the wheel wells are void of any detail, are there any aftermarket upgrades for this area to improve it ? or is it just a case of scratchbuilding the wells yourself ? cheers. Nomore Shelfspace
The wheel wells on a Spitfire are not that complex, it shouldn't be too difficult to build up the walls from thin sheet, if nothing else.
Troy Smith
yes, its scracthbuild time. If you have it, the new tool Airfix 1/48th Spit I or Vb wells are good, note the walls slope back, but the well is round, many kist kits get this wrong, and have oval wells clearly visible here from http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/mark_hayward/supermarine_spitfire_mk1a_p9444/ the part where the leg retacts is not boxed, as many kits have it, but open into the wing, with the front spar making the front 'wall' If you want to detail up the old beast, look for the old book on it, there is more info on this and the like here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/59537-the-definitive-spitfire-mk1-thread/ Adding a main spar helps keep the wing dihedral, there is build somewhere on here showing this ah, here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234989809-airfix-124-spit-vb-was-newbie-questions-now-building-again/ Also, have a seacrh of Large Scale Planes site, there will be builds there HTH T T
