TheBaron
Tomo, Johnny, Alex, Adrian: many thanks for that. You've put iron in the soul and the wing shall remain off until the end. Bill: You'll find this hard to believe but I've had more than one pair of glasses fall apart that way. Did I mention that I'm slow at making connections sometimes? Jockney: Thanks for that. The chafing off them shuttlecocks is something cruel ain't it? Cheers Phil. I needed a fellow vacillator to back me up. I was just testing you all of course about the wing... I meant to leave it off the whole time Rumpled of the Baileys...
TonyTiger66
Those lamp thingies at the end of the wings look as exceedingly nice as a number of Mr. Kipling's cakes . Splendid work Mr Le Baron. I am also in the 'after' camp for the bent wing. Regarding 'lost parts' (fnar) Mrs T (also a member of rival site 'BritModeller's wives'), can always seem to find a lost 1/72 pilot's monocle, when I'm on day three of pretending I'm not looking for such an absurd yet sleep depriving item. How these wonderful and tolerant (better) other halves do it I will never know. I spotted on your profile that on Jan 15th you got a BM 'OBE'. Well done young man . It's all downhill from here . moaning dolphin
Still looking as good as ever! I did happen to stumble upon this video in You tube of some fancy flying footage of the Barra. Not sure if you've seen the footage? It is not very clear and has an annoying watermark on it, but there are some nice shots in there. My favourite is the folding sequence where you have one man guiding the wing back and then another two people holding onto him to ensure the wing doesn't swing into the back of the aircraft taking out the tail, there must have been a lot of momentum in them there wings! I bet trying to spread them on board in a 40 knot head wind would take a herculean effort. Any hoo enjoy and keep up the cracking work! Nigel Heath
Those lights are brilliant, little works of art in their own right. I know I'm a bit late but I would also leave the wing off during painting and decalling, leave it off as late as you can.

Message received Rob. You're exactly right in anticipating the sequence of calamities that would likely have engulfed me the other route. 3 hours ago, moaning dolphin said: Still looking as good as ever! I've seen nothing like it with regard to showing the articulation of the various parts of the aircraft. I'm most grateful to you for unearthing this gem. 2 hours ago, Nigel Heath said: Those lights are brilliant, little works of art in their own right. Very very late it will be as it's one bit I'm dreading given the amount of face I could lose for it going pear-shaped in the final innings... 58 minutes ago, perdu said: Him I agree with I find your level of agreement agreeable on aggregate. TonyTiger66
Brian Cant. An essential component of a well rounded British childhood (along with Lesley Judd's...). I loved his songs in Trumpton, Chigley and Camberwick Green. Quite possibly the one 'Life Goes By When You're The Driver Of A Train' is my favourite. They really don't make them like that any more. Wonderful stuff. Lord Belborough and Brakett the butler for your delectation : Slightly off topic, but I hope in a very nice nostalgic way.. The gentleness and humour of those things is regrettably something in short supply in our time now. I shudder to think at some of the violent obscenities that Youtube has opened up to minds too young to comprehend and emotionally process what they are seeing. 4 hours ago, 71chally said: I would stick the wing on now Tony, keep the larfs rolling in! Somebody woke up a comedian this morning... No. I will not be goaded. I will however let you see my latest wheeze for the canopy (probably just reinventing the wheel but I like it) below. 3 minutes ago, limeypilot said: hmmm, Trumpton.....That name may take on a whole new meaning soon...... Judging by the deceit over the crowd size at the inauguration, I'm just expecting an administration of continuous lies... First up, I stopped dawdling and got the Youngman structure finished off for the port (non-folded) wing. Same procedure as before re: tubing etc That will of course be stuck on last, along with the starboard wing. Not before. Looking at you James.... That shallow drilling angle required to make the opening in the wing for the brass tubing to enter was a bit problematic, so I had recourse to my old favourite of 'heat the needle': 20 seconds flat and you're done, with n0 attendant risk of the drill skittering out of its hole and suddenly adding some unexpected panel lines... Despite some slight undersizing, I'm going with the kit wheels, using the mid-wartime version supplied: The complexity of the glasshouse has been causing me to ignore it but the time for dalliance is passed. With open canopies, I've grown increasingly unhappy with the frame definition - or rather lack thereof - that you can see here, compared to what is visible on the real aircraft: I'm talking mainly about the rear edge of that transparency, where the sliding portion slides forward to meet it. Let's get Maureen in: You can see the frame stands proud on the real thing compared to the more flush version in the kit part, ergo, some extra definition is needed: I've re-frames the existing part with Microstrip as you can see: This also incidentally solves the problem of missing length from the part caused by the width of the original saw cut: For my liking it re-introduces a greater sense of solidity and believability in this region of the aircraft. You get a wider view of what I mean here: and here: regarding the varieties of scale and solidity in the framing of that long glasshouse. That's probably it for the day. Mrs. B's back with the shopping and I heard kippers mentioned. I presume it's fish and she hasn't bought me a tie.... Tony
