TallBlondJohn
The BBC article (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37720580) stated 'The MoD, which received approval for the name from the Queen, said the next three boats would also be given names with "historical resonance".' Looks like the submarine tradition of lettered classes has been dropped, so its famous capital ships (of whatever type) of the past. So my money would be on another Warspite. Maybe HMS Nelson if they rename Portsmouth, Rodney if they don't. HMS Devastation would be historically resonant but a bit too accurate for an SSBN. Lion and Temeraire maybe? 4scourge7
I was going to point out that some of the boats mentioned are still rusting away at Rosyth and Devenport and are, technically, still using their names. However, this appeared on Tuesday: https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/rusting-nuclear-submarines-rosyth-finally-dismantled/ Which is presumably allowing the use of the name HMS Dreadnought as S101 is still at Rosyth. So why not Warspite, Repulse etc....?
Francis Macnaughton
HMS Warrior currently refers to the HQ at Northwood but there is also HMS Warrior (1860) at Portsmouth as a museum. The fact that the 1860 one was never scrapped didn't stop the name being reused in 1905 for the one that sank at Jutland or the current shore establishment. TallBlondJohn
Well, the Cs were a separate class IIRC. I'm going to plumb for Dreadnought, Formidable, Indomitable and Fearless - a common theme of don't push it pal.
