Bullbasket
Still following this build with interest. The more I read, the more convinced I am that I've got to pick one up. One question. What are you using for reference? John.

The more I read, the more convinced I am that I've got to pick one up. One question. What are you using for reference? John. Glad you are still following the build John! My reference material consists of two books one on Centurion, one on Conqueror, some internal drawings from the user manual which you can find on line and hours of trawling the internet for photos! In addition, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to crawl all over one of these when I was in the green machine, I've been inside the beast plenty of times, so It`s not as random as it appears, most of us have an "Eye" for interpreting images, that's part of what makes us "competent" modelers in my opinion. You can put several photos and drawings together and figure out what goes where and the internal details kind of fall into place, Yes there is always some guess work, but it`s an educated guess. I`m fairly confidant my drivers compartment will be 80% accurate, I might be + or - by a mil or two but you wont be able to tell through the hatch! I also have in my stash, an AA Cent drivers compartment conversion kit which has come in handy for measuring some of the internal components, although the conversion kit is not as detailed as my compartment will be! For the external details I have a lot of my own photos which gave me a breakdown of how the glacis join was reinforced, and there are tons of images on line. I think it is a worthwhile purchase, get the Aber barrel and you are still only half the price of the AA Mk2! I`m off down me shed! Valenstitch
Proper taters outside today, but dry and clear, so off to the shed, Ideal modeling weather! Alamein day! Hussar! Some more work done on the drivers compartment, right side in the centre with clockwise from the top, air vent with the start of three "punka loofa" fittings, the charger unit throttles (like a mini aircraft throttle) and the hand throttle control. On the side plate I've done the vehicle document case, the handbrake now has its fixing at the bottom and there are various knobs and switches on the instrument panel and the main engine control box. On the left side, the main fuse box with the reset button in the middle, the master switch box (minus switch) and the drivers coms box above it. And on the floor, the gear selector rods are all in place, the steering rods are in place , the handbrake rod is in place and the drivers seat bearers are in, there is a hole for the gear stick too! Still a long way to go though.................and this started out as an OTB build with a couple of corrections to show how easy it was! rayprit
If anyone is interested, these kits are being sold at roughly half price by Tiger hobbies...........post free £39.99 linky: https://www.tigerhobbies.co.uk/index.php?route=product/search&search=conqueror Incidentally, nice build, brings back a lot of memories when we had them in the regiment, nearly all were left in the hangar on exercise due to nobody liking them and they being unreliable and prefurance given to Centurion.. Each troop had a Conqueror, so about 3 Conquerors per Squadron. If memory serves me well, they were all taken away in 1965 to an area in Sennelager and turned into range targets, the odd one or two escaped and became museum relics, having said that, some range targets were recovered and attempts are being made to refurbish what they can from bits and pieces

Valenstitch
Regimental dinner this weekend, tanked! Despite the excellent modeling weather no time in the shed! Until today! Here is a bit more progress! Dry fitted the internals with their initial cable fit. The cables are pushing the bulkhead and walls out of position slightly but I`m happy with the look of the thing! So with a week of lates I should be able to crack on with the hatch, drivers seat and the controls! Ta for lookin` Granto

Valenstitch
Saturday, harry taters outside, Leg Iron off to the hairdressers......................Ideal modeling opportunity! Haven't had much time in the shed this week, so a morning of scratch building was very welcome! Here is where I am now............. . This is the left internal wall of the drivers compartment, other than fixing the cables to the wall we`re done! Right side, the handbrake and it`s outer bracket are under way lower right of the picture, still need to fit the cables to the charger unit throttle and a couple of knobs to the control box but almost there! Rear bulkhead now has the cable run drilled out and the drivers comms box fitted. And this shockingly off centre shot shows the drivers floor! The accelerator box needs its pedal fitting and the steering levers and gear stick are still missing. The drivers seat mounting will go on the floor at the rear of this plate, I might have a tinker with that tomorrow! And here are a couple of dreadful shots of all the gubbins dry fitted! It`s a busy little hole! And since it crept into shot earlier................. Here is the underside of the FCT or Fire Control Turret! The round tube across the turret is the rangefinder body, the main instruments and sight mount onto this, left to right in this shot are the eyepiece, the Rangefinder working head, the duplex control mounting bracket and just visible the Gun position indicator mounting bracket. Also in shot, two roughed out steering levers and the drivers "Punka loofa" duct! I need medical help! Ta for lookin` No "G" Granto

Rumblestripe
The Conk was plainly well ahead of its time in the use of Cat 5 cable! Interesting build, it's always nice to see someone working on something that is going to fight you all the way (even if it's only to make a mental note "never ever buy one of these") Kudos dood Edited November 5, 2016 by Rumblestripe

Valenstitch
Cold but dry outside in Portsmouth, big bomb found in the harbour during dredging operations for the arrival of "HMS White Elephant" next year , this has caused the Health and Safety police to close the south of England! Ideal modeling weather then! So what`s been going down in groove town? I`ll tell ya! Here is the drivers compartment as of this morning, steering levers and gear stick fitted, there is only the drivers periscope washer bottle to make and fit on the left wall, the brake and clutch pedals and the accelerator pedal and we`re done! The drivers seat back is visible here as well. Here`s the right hand side, hand brake lever is done, so this side is complete as well! I've cracked on with the suspension, usual DML ambiguity here, slop fit of parts which is a pain since all 16 road wheels need to line up, so I fitted the four corner units using regular cement and then rested the hull on blocks which allowed some adjustment, it`s now resting! You can see the roof correction above the drivers compartment here. It`s a bit more evident in this shot, you can see it is now parallel with the track guard! This goes in the win column! The external head of the drivers periscope has also been fitted having been suitably reduced in it`s overall dimensions! I extended the headlight cable conduit and fitted a junction for the cable on the hull side. The "coal hole2 has been reprofiled, there is a flat edge left front, the hole will have a "bead" fitted about 1mm from the top all the way round, the hatch stops also need fitting. You can also see the bottom of the drivers periscope through the opening. The hatch itself has been altered to a slight dome shape and a large nut added, this still has to be tidied up and the hatch stop pin location tabs fitted. The smoke grenade dischargers have been partially assembled and the moulded bracket on the outer side of each has been removed, this will be replaced with a bit of bent up brass fret. Road wheels, return rollers, idlers and sprocket hubs! And finally back to the FCT............................. Here is the view through the commanders hatch! The sight and rangefinder are visible! And finally for today, here is the view from underneath! So I haven't been totaly idle! Happy with that! Ta for lookin` no "G" Granto
