Alllllllrighty then! Here is today`s summary!

The turntable now has it`s Molins gear guard in place and I have made the 7 case ready rack that sits at the front of the turntable.

20840798_1675121889165570_10676444298289

I had a wee go with the riveting wheel too.

20799911_1675121955832230_77712778801656

The inside of the turret has had a coat of Mr Surfacer dissolved putty followed by a shot of primer

20882611_1675122092498883_74366352533918

On the Gunners side the lower end of the molins gear is in place and the upper guard, the BV socket is also fitted, so at least the crew can have a brew!

20882530_1675122169165542_51978481133284

The entire interior will be sprayed silver, there are some individual items that will be picked out in colour, mainly sights and so forth, the odd control box but that's about it!

20914676_1675123529165406_53732308236901

And another shot of the Gunners side! Only a few bits to touch up!

20841878_1675123289165430_46598314751305

There`s a bit of colour going on the Scaley kit, despite wearing magnifiers I still had to stop here, I`ll go back and do a bit more later! Oh, and I`m filling up the Don 10 reel!

And here we go again....................last real day of the summer shutdown. Bummer!

So before I tried to commiserate with myself over my rapidly disappearing holiday with some cider and a kebab I got some preshade on!

20882178_1675850889092670_58419730272831

Here is the turntable.................

20915128_1675850489092710_98667895873628

And here is the turntable with its growing collection of bits sitting on it.............................

20915592_1675850532426039_79259204493350

The GCE is just resting in place and the attached wires are preventing it sitting flush, and the clips for the inboard 120mm cases look overscale, not sure what I`m going to do about them yet, I might replace them with some etch strip..................On the other hand are they going to be visible.................hmmmmmmm

20840678_1675850852426007_12434157725786

The cast finish got a reduction with a skinny stick, I find that until it`s got a coat of primer you don't know where it is in terms off texture. The turret roof plate doesn't have the cast finish treatment, mainly because it was rolled plate!

20842121_1675850809092678_60019620782877

And you can see the preshade in the FCT well

20882802_1675850615759364_52764501110465

A bit more in the turret interior, this will all be silver before lunch!

20914425_1675850592426033_56758625927305

Once the silver is laid down I`m going to try some post shading of the FCT well and the forward end of the turret with a darker shade, then pick out the various bits and bobs in their respective colours, gloss coat it and then hit it with some Flory wash.

Not much to do then!

And another day in the endless saga of the Conky..........................

I got a bit of colour and a bit of wash on the turret turntable, the GCE is still not fixed in place but I`m happy so far..............

I got a bit bored of Conky, so I tinkered with this. It` was a WIP thread but it lost all it`s fots in the great Photobucket extinction of 2017! I might resurrect it as a WIP because I still have to find a crew for it yet! Hmmmmmm, QOH UK based early 1960`s Catterick garrison...................

Might get a final update in later tonight, who knows...............

Well I spent another hour in my spiritual home, picking out the various boxes and so forth, then a good Flory wash of dark dirt, I think it works well with the Mr Surfacer cast finish and yellows the silver interior nicely. I still have to pick out the shielded lights in white and various other small details but it`s looking ok.......................Other opinions are available elsewhere!

20915333_1678059972205095_56548232609884

I`ve done the first wash around the boxes, there are a few dabs of colour to go on, a tiny bit of dry brushing and I`m about done here!

20914502_1678057025538723_22288312661200

FCT periscopes picked out with crystal acrylic, I have quite a bit of stuff to do here yet before I button it up.....

20883098_1678060002205092_69657503779693

Gunners traverse indicator has come out alright! Amazing what a drop of crystal acrylic straight out of the bottle can do, up close it looks like a radar display!

Well that was my summer holiday..............................I got bugger all done.....................NOT happy, back to work tomorrow, so everything changes, off the pop, back to working out, dieting..............WORKING.............

All the relevant boxes are painted, there is crystal acrylic on optical devices and a final dark wash has gone on, if I get time tomorrow the wash will be reduced and I will dry brush and touch up as required. That will only leave the fighting compartment to do!

Ahhhhh, the memories of the "non-drying silver paint" takes me back to the Chieftain and Challenger days when you would spend ages "ferreting around" in the bottom of the turret then climb out to have your "covvies" smeared with a mix of silver paint and oil !!!!!

Great interior paint job.

Carry on ferretin' no G

You forgot all the other treasures down there, decaying compo, used "army form blank" SMG magazines, webbing, bongo mags, cunningly sealed  (with the plastic lid that came in the compo box four man ration) tins of human waste, mud , dirt, grime, grease! Lovely!

A swift update while I wait for the kettle to boil!

I don't like the DS mantlet dust cover, so I intend to make one from milliput once the turret is assembled, so in advance I have begun on the collar and nuts that secure it!

21231148_1690824580928634_28778290711728

The mantlet end is done!

21192735_1690824707595288_38055798181939

And here is the turret end underway! Time for a brew!

I think that is a very wise move with regards to the DS mantlet cover. There is a discussion over on Missing Lynx about this very subject. Someone in the know was saying that because of poor quality control at some of the Chinese companies, it's very hit or miss as to whether the material disintegrates or not with time.

For sure! I`m debating weather to change the tracks too!

A bit more work done on the Conky!

I was a little concerned about the DS material that the tracks and the Mantlet dust shroud was made of, so I decided to go for a milliput shroud and aftermarket tracks, so I got cracking with the strips that secure the ends of the shroud to the turret and the mantlet.

Turret end the strip is in two parts, there is a piece that goes across under the barrel and a strip that goes up and over and is twisted at the bottom ends to lie flat on the under strip. The whole shebang is secured by dozens of nuts and washers. Thank god for Meng!

Here is the turret end.................

21370932_1697237940287298_54288372490712

And her is the mantlet offered up............

21371275_1697238003620625_56837706318509

I took the spacing from the kit part.

So thats another job ticked off!

Todays Conky update!

Primer shot onto the mantlet and turret front to reveal any flaws in the replacement dust shroud sealing strips. The front of the mantlet also received the etch ring from the Aber replacement barrel set.

I have reinstated the bulkhead at the front of the fighting compartment, when I decided to put some interior into this beast I started with a complete bulkhead which I later cut down as it was not going to be seen, and I just concentrated on the immediate inside of the drivers compartment, as I progressed however it became apparent that I would have to fill the void! The space on the real vehicle was used for ammunition stowage so it will still be empty since British Army vehicles were rarely "Bombed up" other than on the ranges or the Armoured squadron in Berlin where I was in 1980, we were full stowed 365 days a year!

I also did a quick trial fit of components while I was there, the GCE isn't fixed to the turntable yet so it`s on the p*ss a bit but the space is filling up slowly, lots more ammunition stowage got to go in yet!
