Valenstitch
Allllrighty.............................. got some shed time, t`wernt wasted! The Fire Control Turret is ready for the spray booth! So just to make sure everything was working ok I misted another coat on this! I checked my WIP thread for this and found all the fots had gone. Bugger! And I shot some paint on the breech, the majority of the inside of the Conky is silver, apart from the breech ring and various boxes, I haven't decided the sequence for most of the paint job yet, but some of the sub assemblies are ready for colour now. Slaters! Ta for lookin` no "G" Granto

Bullbasket
I'm a little bit disappointed that you've been a little slip shod with the detailing. I can't see any 1/35th scale crumbs from a NAAFI pie! John.

Valenstitch
Alllllllllllrighty! Third update for the day! WTF indeed! Yeah, it`s the top end of the mollins gear! Fitted! And here`s the view from under with the FCT in place................tight doesn't begin to describe it! The loaders station has the .30 cal rack in place, the "Scaley" kit will live on top. Still to come, ready round racks, loaders step, Co-Ax tray and boiling vessel socket! Yes they had a version of the good old BV back in the fifties! Top end of the mollins gear with the FCT out of the way......................the down tube, or up tube to be accurate goes in between the isolation switch and the curved housing, angle to be decided! And a final steep view, the guard rail on the FCT isn't bent, it`s the cable that runs up it! Today goes in the win column! Valenstitch
Got some shed time this weekend, so the Old Conky got a bit closer to finishing, not much closer, just a bit! Here is where I was at earlier, the "Scaley kit "was kind of roughed out, I had to make a few alterations after re consulting my reference material, then I cracked on with the switches and dials......... And here we are now, 69 separate parts make up this sub assembly so far, not counting any laminations! It`s still rough, and I still have to wire it up, but at least the crew will be able to tune in to BFBS! The fuel fillers are fitted, the hinges have been reduced and profiled since this was taken. The breech of the 120mm has had a shot of colour, this will need a shot of gloss varnish before a restrained attack of flory wash! The drivers floor got a quick shot of silver, likewise it will need a gloss coat and some washes, not too much, My Conky will be an early one and thus closer to "minty" than a "hard target". And I made a start on the hatch lifting gear, these are for the Driver, Gunner and Operator, the Commanders doesn't have the interrupted collar on it, that`s the bit above the plastic strip clamped for drying in the fot! So lates this week, a bit more shed time in the offing, might get a bit more done who knows! Ta for lookin` no "G", Peace! Out! Drop the mike! Valenstitch
Well it`s been a hectic week, what with the "Leg Iron`s" daughter getting married and so forth, but I was still able to make a little progress! The breech of the main armament got some colour, a bit of light weathering/wear and tear and a shot of clear, Flory wash next I think! All this stuff below got a shot of silver! FCT interior above and below! Drivers compartment left hand side! And right hand side! So next is picking out the individual boxes in colour, glazing the instrument faces with headlight clear crystal and then gloss coat and washes! Spot the addition to the scaley kit! Wiring next! Fuel fillers got a shot of primer! And last but not least, the hatch lifters are coming on! Ta for lookin` no "G"! Peace! Out! Drop the mike! Valenstitch
Well the old Airbrush has had a bit of use over the weekend! I went out and got some Gunze and had a bit of a play on my Saladin before I got serious with some of the interior bits for the Conky! Shot some Tire black freehand on the lovely DEF Model weighted tires and got some clear gloss on the exterior! Drivers left side bulkhead, sprayed silver, various boxes and the drivers seat picked out in colour and then clear coated before a first hit with some Flory wash. Drivers right side, floor and the FCT, the same treatment. And from above, most of this wash will be removed in the next part of the process. And finally for this morning, here's a Gunnery Instructors worst nightmare, a dirty gun! Ta for lookin` no "G" Granto
Valenstitch
Almost too hot to do much down the shed, but I pushed on regardless! So here are a couple of images of the exterior of the turret, the tie down loops have been fitted as has the basket, I`m not too concerned with the robustness of this item, in reality it is Very heavy duty! The exterior also got a stippling of Mr Surfacer dissolved putty for that just cast look! The rear top contour of the bustle has been reprofiled to correct the shape, I cut two slots for the top basket arms to fit into, I filled these with dissolved sprue, they`ll be cleaned up this week I hope! Moving inside, here is the turret turntable with the gunners platform fitted, this has been a nightmare to get everything lined up! And here it is with the turntable driving bracket in place The end with the four bolts on it goes on the turret ring at the three O`clock position, to the left is the gunners seat and the Operators step! Here is the gunners traverse indicator, this is the last of his instruments, thank god! At the eleven o`clock position are two cylinders that will eventually go on the RBJ which is the central raised portion of the turret turntable above! Here are the first parts of the metadyne gun kit, this will also go on the turret turntable More gubbins! Battery box, stowage box and the rather indistinct charger unit regulators here is the engine bulkhead with the shelf Where the charger unit regulators will sit, thusly! So a bit more progress! I can see light at the end of the tunnel now, just a few more bits to go in the turret and I can get some paint in there and press on with the exterior and the actual bits of the kit! So from a very sweaty Portsmouth that's all for tonight! Ta for lookin` no "G" Granto
Valenstitch
Yet another update in the turgid saga of this never ending build! Today I fitted the Turret turntable driving bracket, this lines up everything inside, it took three attempts to get the bits in place, but here it is! I also have to straighten out a couple of the stowage loops! So there are the shocking fots of the internals! And here is an external of the FCT in place! And one final one of the bits that are going on to the turntable under the gun, this is a bit of a grey area, the drawings I have have no detail of the exact layout, and the Handbook contains nothing regarding the main armament or the gun kit, probably because it was still secret at the time, and much of it is in a way ancestral to Chieftain and Challenger. Centurion had it`s gun kit under the main armament, since the Conky and the Cent shared the same basic components and there is nowhere else for it to go because everywhere else is full of other kit I`m going with the Cent layout as a rough guide. So another job ticked off, hundreds more to go! Ta for lookin` no "G" Granto

Valenstitch
Allllllllllllllllllllllllllrighty then! Time for a swift update. I`ve been working on the turret internals, the metadyne gun kit will go on the turret turntable, the three items in the foreground are all part of this! The lump in the background is the "Scaley kit" 19 and 31 sets. I am in the process of wiring this up. All this is ready for a final fettle and then a shot of primer! The Rotary Base Junction Box is in place, this supports the turret turntable in the model, in reality this is where all the electrical gubbins connects the turret to the hull. The turntable is much larger than this, there is not much room once the internals are in place, I have to fit the air cleaners and over twenty ready round racks in here. The back end is being populated with actual bits from the kit! Inside it`s business as usual, Gunners manual elevation control is in, also the link for the rangefinder. On the loaders side I still have to fabricate two four round ready racks, these are a different type to the ones on the hull. And here are the air cleaners under way, they will mount on to the engine bulkhead via a plate that will go on the back face of the scoop like appendage visible on the left hand one. So they will sit vertically against the engine bulkhead with the inlets rotated to 45 degrees inboard , if that makes any sense! Bottom end of the mollins gear is visible above, this will be installed soon! So steady but slow progress, but summer shutdown is rapidly approaching, three whole weeks off, so the end could be nigh for the Conky! I might even get my Saladin finished! And I may have to consider what to tackle next........................................ I`ve actually got a pretty good Idea what to tackle next.....................
