SimonL
As with my previous build I press fit (without glue) the engines to the front of their respective nacelles and the attached the cowlings around the engines. A quick dry fit of the collector rings and exhausts looks pretty good. I then added a few other bits and pieces including the radome, gun camera housing above the cockpit and the transparent landing light cover. Thats the main airframe done - on to painting!
SimonL
Canopy was quickly masked and attached. Well it should have been a relatively straight forward paint job, but of course I was near the end of both the medium sea grey (Tamiya XF 84) and gloss black (Tamiya X1), and I rather over thinned them, so the finish was rather ordinary (the photo is rather kind in that regard). Nothing for it but to go and buy some new paint, to make a few touch ups, which actually ended up looking pretty good, and then a trial run of a dry fit of the engines and associated collector rings and propellers. I had some problems with the fit of the collector rings and propellors last time, so this time I cut off the end of the fitting for the propellor shaft so as to leave the propellor a simple push fit. I was then able to get the engines and collector rings to fit nicely.

SimonL
thanks guys :-) Its not my best paint job - bit out of practice. Any how, on with the decals. A bit of dirtying up with some watercolours which were then sealed in with Humbrol Mattcote (also near the end of that bottle as well, so it do didn't go on as well as I hoped). I then found on removing the masks that there was a masking tape fragment on the inside of the canopy. So I levered it off carefully, and removed offending object. Final addition of external fuel tank, rockets and wing tip lights. I gave the model a coat of Tamiya Semigloss Clear X35, which gave a nice muted sheen to the finish and thats it! More photos to follow shortly in RFI. Edited October 23, 2016 by SimonL
