I think this is 1/48 actually

No, have look at the label under the model: ref.01652. This test build was on display nearby the future Trumpeter's 1/72nd MiG-31 kit (ref.01679).

Also in the image are the future 1/48th Defiant Mk.1 (ref.02899), the 1/32nd MiG-29 9.12 "Fulcrum-A" (ref.03223) and the 1/24th Ju-87A Stuka (ref.02420).

For its part, the HobbyBoss's soon to release 1/48th Su-34 test build was on display in another part of the same stand  - nearby the 1/48th MiG-31M, A-4M and IAR-80. ;)

Zoom in on the labels, all the kit numbers are in accordance with the future Trumpeter's catalogue references.

Furthermore this is the Trumpeter a/c side from the stand, not the HobbyBoss one.

Not a fan of the box art, doesn't live up to some of the other recent Trumpy releases (the Fencer's being particularly good). Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to this a lot. Much easier to handle this aircraft, and display it, in 1/72.

I think the nose looks fine but some posting earlier did not. It was suggested, years ago when the Italeri kit was new, that the intakes were squashed in the vertical dimension. Never formed my own opinion. I'll probably get the Trumpeter kit and compare with my original issue Italeri ( which is coming out again) before deciding which to build.

And, what's wrong with the Italeri kit of the plane that the Trumpy is better than?

Trench-like panel lines and some other inaccuracies.

That said, thanks to the sheer size of it the panel lines don't like that awful and you can produce something quite decent with it.

Thanks!  That's exactly the sort of context which really helps!
