Skyhunter66
Ok so I am just completing my 1:48 F15i and decided it would be good to build an Israeli F4 to go with it! So a couple of questions if I may: 1. Which 1:48 kits could i use to build an Israeli F4? I have a Hasegawa 1:48 F4EJ on its way from Ebay - would that work for example? 2. I've seen some decals from Hi-Decal which look quite good but where would I get stencils in Hebrew for it? Any help appreciated! thanks chris
exdraken
the F-4 was called Kurnass by the IDF/AF any F-4E is of course a good starting point! Israel used also many stock F-4E from the USAF, Isradedal usually is a good source for decals on Israeli subjects: http://www.isradecal.com/148-decals http://www.isradecal.com/_p/prd1/1457169401/product/rf-4-phantom-stencils-camouflaged-1%3A48-(iaf38) http://www.squadron.com/1-48-IsraDecal-Israeli-Air-Force-F-4E-RF-4E-Kurnas-p/id48059.htm when you have decided on a timeframe and specific plane and loadout, more knowledgable people will surely have more detailed resources available! Giorgio N
The EJ box can be used to build an early, non slatted wing F-4E. Israel used these initially but later received aircrafts with the slatted wing. Early aircrafts also had the original short cannon fairing, don't know if this is included in the EJ box but It should be (it's in the 1/72 box for sure). IIRC these early aircrafts had stencilling in English and not Hebrew, the latter was introduced at a later date
Rhino
For a slatted version, an F-4F Hasegawa kit would work, except you will need a slotted tailplane. I know how difficult these are to find, as I need some F-4E's for a project I am putting together. Hypersonic models do a slotted tailplane here http://www.hypersonicmodels.co.uk/product/f-4-phantom-slotted-stabilator Wingman do a soft wing conversion set, but in 1/32nd scale only. Duncan B
Would this work? https://www.blackmikemodels.co.uk/products/hasegawa-pt8-1-48-f-4e-phantom-ii-30th-anniversary Of course it would and sorry for the shameless plug but I couldn't help showing off my latest addition to the Phantom collection Duncan B
Hook
Israeli F-4E's were later fitted with external refuelling probes as well. Cheers, Andre

Diego
Indeed, Hasegawa's F-4E "30th Anniversary" boxing contains all the necessary items to build a slated Kurnass. You will find 1/48th scale drawings showing the refuelling probe on the Hi-Decal instruction sheet. Alternatively, you can ask on the forum for a refuelling probe from the recently released, updated Italeri RF-4E kit, containing this element. Jens
As a few other have mentioned, the F-4EJ (providing it's not the Kai version) is perfectly fine for an early Israeli F-4E (including Yom Kippur War). But styles of gun muzzles are included. I am currently working on an early Israeli F-4E myself. Jens
Skyhunter66
Ok thank you all for your help - this has been very helpful. I've ordered the 30th Anniversary Hasegawa kit now and some decals from Isradecals and Hi Decal. I guess I can now either go early or late depending on which kit I use. Was thinking if I did the early version with the EJ kit I could use the Kurnass kit to do a Greek F4 .... chris

The probe can be found in the new Italeri RF-4E kit along with a decent set of IAF markings (even if the description for them in the instructions is a bit dodgy).
