Thinning Windsor and Newton Matt acrylic varnish

As per the title really, can it be thinned? What would be the best stuff to thin it with? So far I have Tamiya x20a, mr hobby self levelling thinner and IPA. And plain old tap water. I know I can clean up with water (according to the label anyway) so what would people recommend? Tia

Hi Jusjay,

 

I use either Vallejo or Ultimate thinners, no more than 10% though as the varnish is just about thin enough to go through my airbrush..

Hi will thanks for your comment. I'll certainly look into those thinners and see if they are available near me. If not I might have to test out the ones I have and see if either of those work. But I'm definitely going to look into the ultimate and Vallejo

Hi there! - Just used this varnish today and am quite pleased with the resultsI used a ratio of 3 parts W&N to 1 part water. The varnish was then sprayed through a 0.5 tip at 15lb psi. I would recommend that you put 2 layers on, leaving 24 hours between coats.

Hi kitman thanks for your reply. I've tried thinning it but it's coming out almost blotchy for some reason. Maybe it'll settle down once dry. If not I might have to try something else if I can't get it to work.
