ShipbuilderMN
I served in this ship from early 1990 to late 1992 when she was brand new. Now about to be withdrawn at the age of 26 years. Bob
terryn
Bob I was recently in the Falkland Islands where many St Helenan's work. There was much discussion about the problems with the new airport and how much they were going to miss their ship. Apparently she will continue to sail from South Africa until the airport is safe to use. Theres life in the old gal yet Terry
Francis Macnaughton
In case you hadn't seen Bob, RMS St Helena has a centre page feature in the latest Model Boats issue
ShipbuilderMN
Thanks, I don't normally get Model Boats, but I did get the last Special Edition of it that had a section on my old ship, the Union-Castle liner RMS Good Hope Castle. The St. Helena is now almost 27-years-old, so is coming to the end of her life anyway. The airport cannot be used safely with large aircraft because of "wind sheer," but the government are looking into curing it. They can regard it as a bit of practice for larger task of fixing "global warming" Should be a "piece of cake!" Bob
