Flipper
Hi folks this is a bike I'm building at the moment. It's Tamiya's Honda RC213V Marc Marquez kit. I'm not a fan of Marquez and that's probably one of the reasons I've not built this kit before. Anyway Blue-Stuff came out with the decals and resin to convert the bike to Pedrosa's, so I bought this. Anyway here's the kit I've bought a load of extras for it, first of the Studio27 carbon decal kit, which to be honest was money wasted, suffice to say it's horrible, the decals are thick, brittle, shiney and just yuck. In the end I just used them as a template, as I used decal sheets from Scale Motorsport I also bought the PE kit which again I have mixed results with, in the end I only used a few of the parts as the original kit was a lot more detailed I'll be using Vallejo and Tamiya acrylics for the build other than the main panels which will be treated to Zero Paints finest paints and their colour matched paint kit Other than that I'll be using several parts from Top Studio And finally I will be using Tamiya's fork upgrade kit, like I've said before if your going to build one of these bikes you should at least buy this
Flipper
First up the engine this was painted using Vallejo Metal Color, Vallejo Model Air and Tamiya Acrylics. The rear stand all built up
Flipper
The rear mudguard like I said before the decals from the Studio27 kit were horrid, so I used carbon decal sheets from Scale Motorsport which are a joy to work with The wheels all painted and decaled up
Flipper
The rear sprocket and chain, this was one of the parts that the detail was far better in than the PE part. The rear swing arm, this was painted in Vallejo MC White Alluminium, then I decaled it again with Scale Motorsports carbon decals. The rear suspension which was again painted with Vallejo Metal Color this time Dark Aluminium, and Aluminium. And all joined together

Flipper
The frame was then painted in Vallejo MC White Aluminium. The frame with the engine attached And the rear swing arm attached
Flipper
I then attached the rear wheel and tyre I then went into the front exhaust, this was painted Vallejo MC Duralluminium and for the shading I used Tamiya Smoke and Clear Blue. I also used the Top Studio exhaust springs and hangers. And attached to the bike And that's how it stands at present, hopefully over the next couple of days I'll get the front built up at attsched
Flipper
Great job flipper the attention to detail is second to none Shaun Cheers Shaun, I've built a couple of bikes, but this is my first MotoGP bike, there is a lot of detail in it Edited September 8, 2016 by Flipper
Mumbly
Nice work, I'll enjoy watching this one progress. I want to see an LCR decal version come out, as that livery was superb, very retro. Pity Tamiya have not released a chain & sprocket set for this, and surprising given the history that the bike made that year. Tony

Flipper
Cheers for the comments guys it's much appreciated. That's the radiator all painted up and fixed on. I have used the original Tamiya part as in my opinion it was far better detailed than the aftermarket PE part. It was painted in Vallejo Metal Color Duraaluminium then give a Dark wash. Hope you like it and thanks for looking.

Cheers mate it's a 1/24 scale weave, and the Scale Motorsport code is SKU1024.http://www.hiroboy.com/124_Carbon_Fiber_DecalsTwill_Weave_BlackPewter_1024__SKU1024--product--317.html Hope this helps Cheers Edited September 9, 2016 by Flipper
vontrips
Very nice work! I bought the kit cheapy cheap but also don't like Marquez so may consider the Pedrosa conversion too. I agree, your SMS carbon decals look superb! Edited September 9, 2016 by vontrips
Flipper
Some more carbon decaling done today. Also gave the front mud guard several coats of Tamiya Aqua Gloss. I also used some of the bolt heads from the Top Studio PE kit. Edited September 9, 2016 by Flipper
Mumbly
Just seen that Studio 27 are planning the Gresini Go and Fun livery that Bautista rode. Could be interesting as they used Showa suspension and I think tried Nissin breaks at some point that year also. Still holding out for the LCR colours of Bradl though. Very nice work! I bought the kit cheapy cheap but also don't like Marquez so may consider the Pedrosa conversion too. I agree, your SMS carbon decals look superb! I agree Marquez is the devil incarnate to the Rossi'fumi out there, but he is without a doubt the most spectacular rider we have seen, building the full set of RCV's would be cool. Flipper
Now onto the front end of things. For the front brakes I've used a mixture of kit parts and PE parts. I used various shades of Vallejo Metal Color which I think has came out ok I then attached the brake discs to the front wheel, I used a small dab of PVA glue just to hold them in place during the build up. My apologises for the lack of photos for the next part, I thought I taken some but well you know what thought did, anyway here's the front suspension and brake calliper carriers all build up. I used the Tamiya suspension kit here and for the colours I used Vallejo Metal Colours again I then attached the suspension, mud guard and wheel together Next was the instrument panel, again this did have and aftermarket decal part, but I didn't even try and use it, again preferring to use the Scale Motorsport Decals, I honestly can't praise these decals highly enough. I then dry brushed some silver highlights for the buttons and added the kit decal for the display. I then attached it along with the main top mount for the suspension, the decals on this are a mixture of the kit decals and aftermarket decals from Blue-Stuff. The top mount is painted Vallejo Metal Color Gold, and I also added several of the detail kit. Next up I attached the front set up to the frame, this was a very tight fit and required a fair bit of sanding down of the hole and insert, but I got there in the end. Anyway thanks for looking again, cheers. David Edited September 10, 2016 by Flipper
Flipper
Arghhhhh spot the mistake I was just looking through some reference photos for the bike, and thinking mmmmm my front fender hasn't got those decals on it, yep I've forgotten two bloody decals, not small ones but the two rather large Bridgestone decals either side of the fron fender......yep I'm a donkey. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow, thankfully it comes off quite easily, just got to scrape some glue off.
Flipper
How the front fender should look All the panels for the top end of the bike And them all test fitted. I had then planned for several photos of the primed parts, suffice to say the learning curve continues and I've ordered some IPA fluid as I must have made about every mistake possible on one panel. It's getting stripped off for me to start again. Arghhhhhh Edited September 13, 2016 by Flipper
Riggers
Why can't you micromesh it off?
Flipper
I think I'll get a better starting point if I strip it off. I've also found Micromesh is ok for wet sanding panels before compound polishing but not that good for what I need. Over the last couple of days I've been trying to crack on with the bike as I will soon have 2 Tamiya LaFerrari's to build at the same time. Oh the joys lol. Anyway next up were the front brake callipers, the were primed in Badger Grey then given several coats of Vallejo Metal Color Dark Aluminium. The tiny Brembo decal was then applied and they were given a Flory dark wash. Then it was onto the handle bars they to were given a coat of grey primer before being painted several different shades of Tamiya black, and Vallejo Gun Metal. The Pedrosa decal on the lever was a pain to put on, thank god I've got one of those helping hand magnifying things I then fitted the brake callipers and handle bars. I then plumbed them in, it was my intention to use clear tubing throughout which I bought. However the stuff I bought was far too thin, so I plumbed them in with the kit tubing with a view to replacing these in the future when I find better clear tubing. I don't think the black tubing is too bad. I then had a bit of a carbon fest and carbon decaled the various panels that go on and over the engine. I used the Scale Motorsport Carbon Decal sheets and I picked out the bolt heads with the PE kit from Top Studio. I then fitted these to the bike, other than the pedals etc that's the bare bike finished. Now on with the panels and all those lovely decals. Anyway that's it for the moment, I hope you like it and again thanks for looking Cheers Edited September 13, 2016 by Flipper

Dare I ask, what do you think of the Vallejo metal paints as they're not commonly used by auto modellers (as far as I'm aware). Do you find them better than the alternatives, or have you previously done military/aircraft stuff. I always associate Vallejo with those genres, not sure why though! Hoping to get to grips with the AK Interactive Extreme Metal range but not used them in ernest yet to judge!
Flipper
I have previously used the Vallejo Metal Colors on aircraft. I mainly use them due to the lack of smell as I model in the house and SWMBO complains about the smells at the best of times. I also like the finish they give you if used correctly, initially I used them neat with mixed results, but now I thin them down a bit and the finish is a lot better. I haven't used any of the AJ stuff yet, being relatively new to modelling I'm still trying to build up my kit.
vontrips
Finally got some time to test the AK Extreme paints tonight; the usual back of the plastic spoon idea - good for comparing metallic shades. To be honest I'm not enamoured by them! I don't like their black base especially - same idea as Alclad for chrome and polished alloy. Their chrome seems tougher than Alclad's though. Not airbrushed for ages so maybe I need to brush up on my technique somewhar!
