lowlevelraf
Hi Guys, I happy to show you my finished 1/48 Revell Harrier GR9! I'm very happy with her! Its the first time i've used a wash on a model, and I can certainly say it is the way forward. Used a Satin vanish to protect the decals, used Flory Models Dark Dirt wash, then finished with a coat of Matt vanish, using the Vallego vanish straight from the spray can. On addons are after market cockpit, bang seat and the pilot. The was a slight accident with the front canpoy misting up after gluing, but over all, very happy with her! She is marked up as ZG857 EB-Z, in 1 (F) Sqn markings. This jet was part of the 41 (TES) Sqn testing fleet, at RAF Coningsby. At the time of announcement of the Harrier withdrawal, the 41 TES bird was testing the latest upgrade for the GR9/9A fleet, with Avionics, Brimstone and other upgrades fleet. With the Harrier fleet drawing down, 41 TES was no longer required for Harrier testing, the aircraft on unit with de-graded back to front line use and sent back to RAF Cottesmore, EB-Z to 1 (F) Sqn. Her last flight was part of the 16 ship final flight on 15th December 2010. Any body know any good methods for creating a stand? Next on list, 1/32 Hawk T2, in flight. Also, have a 1/48 Chinook and Sea Vixen ready to go! exdraken
Superb Harrier! Pitty about the early withdrawl, guess they'd come in handy in recent operations... Nice wash, well done! Seems to be a 100% Lerx,no? Whose is it? Conerning a stand,I usually insert a glass/acryl/metal rod,but that needs to be prepared before... The hanger looks fine to me! PlaStix
Hi Matt. That looks like an excellent Harrier and well done on the wash. It looks really great! Very impressive. Well done. Possible ideas for a stand: On the couple I've done (above) I used Perspex rod - drilled and glued into a base of MDF. I drilled the same size hole in a suitable location on the bottom of the aircraft then I round off the top of the Perspex and put a small amount of glue on the end to secure inside the aircraft. Hope this is of some use. Kind regards, Stix
R159
For stands, pop to b&q, they have lots of different materials to use...they are in a rack in either 1m or 2m lengths. If you pick out a sheet of ply/mdf/hard board they'll cut it for free. I kept a load of bits for ply which came with some furniture as packing, it's served me well.
