My first "Dora" Tamiya 1/48 Focke Wulf Fw190 D-9

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

So 2/3rd through my Fieseler Storch build I started work on my first Dora. The main thing I was experimenting with, was post shading in a multiple colour camouflage scheme as I had never done this before. Nothing added to this kit, out of box, only opened up the gun barrels on the nose and replaced the wing barrels with stainless steel rod. Paint used was Model Master enamels for the camo and Tamiya for the interior and wheels, Vallejo for the "Defence of the Reich" bands....oh and I forgot to put a wash on after I clear coated it! Doh!!! :mental:

Things I learned:

1) Yellow paint takes a gazillion coats to cover....

2) There is a reason why you have to wait for a Dora's wheels to dry after you stuck them on, otherwise they turn out all wonky like mine.

Please criticize away, especially about the post shading.

Very neat Dora! The post shading looks very 'right', especially on the underside.

If anything, maybe the finish is a bit on the matt side – Luftwaffe a/c usually had something like an eggshell shine to the paintwork.

Excellent modelling.

Kind regards,

Joachim

I really enjoy looking at these Dora's there Keeto. They have such a refined look to them that makes them look sleek and fast just sitting there. You've captured the look quite well and aside from the short main landing gear (which is one of the pitfalls of the Tamiya Dora's) this is a beautiful build. Great work bud. :thumbsup2:

Thank you guys. I appreciate the kind comments. Thanks, Joachim for that info as well...I shall apply that to my next project, which is going to be a biggie for me, Eduard 1/48 Bf-110 G-4 with a Master FuG 220 SN-2 antennae set...all firsts for me...
