1:12 Porsche 935

Recommended Posts

By way of introduction , I have been a modeller for some 40 years, during which time, I have been involved in pretty much all the arenas there are, from vehicles/aircraft to historical/fantasy figures.

Although I worked mainly to commission for the last two decades, I have now decided to spend my time doing things just for me.

Having been an interested observer for some time, I recently took the plunge and joined.

To illustrate, I include this link to a commission piece I did a few years back, unfortunately, due to life's intervention, it still awaits completion!

http://www.project935.doodlekit.com/gallery/683

I was taken by surprise when my partner brought me the Pocher Aventador and, this will be my return to the bench, and my first piece for me alone.

Look forward to starting it in the near future and will welcome your input.

Kindest regards,

Ron

Thanks for nice comment.....I love the detailing that can be added to the larger kits....and this one cried out for it.

Cheers

Excellent Porsche and beautiful added detail. Welcome to the forum and bring more large scale builds!

There are excellent Aventador builds here for your reference also.

Thanks for kind words....glad to be back doing what I do best....

Have looked at the other builds....plenty of ideas to pinch lol

Thanks

Ron

Beautiful work, very inspiring and plenty to learn from this complex build.

It begs to be finished, not much is missing !

Being very far from your skill level, it seems to me large kits are really about detailing and one ends up doing plenty of little pieces in fact, and in small scales.....but the end result is truly worth it, and for the likes of my level, a great way to learn and enjoy the process.

It reminds me of a discussion we had on one of the topics a while ago. In short we debated that "small kits are not good for learning", and surprisingly we were only a handful to have the opinion that large kits are much better for learning. i wonder what you think.

Welcome !!

Sam

Hi Sam....very pleased you like the Porsche :)......even now....I can see plenty of detail I missed lol

Regards the detailing aspect....personally.....I don't think you can really work to a high standard below 1:12th

Reason being....no matter how hard you try....they still look like what they really are....toys...for want of a better word.

Where 'learning' is concerned.....logically....no matter the scale....you will learn something....even if it's only how not to do it.

True scratch builders may disagree.....and rightly so....but I would struggle below 1:12th....and it would show :(

Ron

Great detail and beautiful work on all the small bits that really bring a kit to life! I have one of these that's almost finished, in the Hawaiian Tropic livery but, unfortunately not as well detailed as yours. Very nice! I can't wait to see your Aventador.

Many thanks for comment....I have always believed it's the smaller details that breathe life into any build.

One area of the Aventador that I will spend extra time detailing will be the interior......a lot of the builds I have seen so far....have superb engine and bay detailing....

but beyond some carpet...and a bit of contrast painting on the upholstery....few have taken the interior to a level that matches the engine area....and this is definitely my aim.

Would love to see some pics of yours.

Cheers

Thanks Ron. I'll dig up a few pictures of the 935 but, it is not quite as nice as yours. I mostly built it before I went back to finish the Pocher Mercedes that I had started some 15-20 years prior. The things that I learned and new skills and confidence that I gained throughout the Mercedes build would have made the 935 a much better build. However, it was still a fun build as far as I got with it. It is basically done with the exception of the final assembly. It was a kit I bought as a basket case off of eBay. I also have a Aventador that I bought from eBay that a kid had decided to paint and it is waiting for the new garage work shop to be finished so I can do some of the paint work. I'm really interested to see what you do with the interior on yours. I am planning on doing some SMD LEDs on mine like another builder did here on the forum. I believe it was DannyG but forgive me if I have this wrong. I'm also doing those on the Mercedes so, it is the test. The problem with the Lambo is the engine compartment is so tightly packed there's not a lot of room for your detailing efforts to be seen. Roy managed to do a nice mod of the frame that allows for it to be shown off. So, like you I think the interior is the best place for any details to be shown off. And, because I have the coupe, lights will help with that.

We all hope to see this one start soon. Glad to have another big scale builder in the ranks, welcome aboard!

Look forward to some pics of 935.

I intend to maximise the lighting on the Aventador.....especially the interior.....as I have a friend who has their own company specialising in miniature lighting.

With so many types of LED's available these days....a kit of this size is perfect to use them on....add in fibre optics....and you have every base covered.

I am busy gathering refs and bits for the build as we speak.....time consuming but...an important part of any build IMHO.....and as much fun as the build itself.

I have to redecorate the living room for my partner....as a thank you for buying me the kit....and order a case for the finished build as much as to protect the WIP....then it will be off and running.

Many thanks for the warm welcome.

Regards

Ron

Hey Ron, here's just a couple of pictures of my 935 such as it is. After I had built most of it and painted it I realized that the real one had the side pontoons on the rocker panels. However, at the time, my scratch building skills probably weren't up to the task.

Mate that's a fine piece of work....let's face it....we always look back and think things could have been done better.....we forget that, at the time, we worked to the skill level we had available to us.

I often look back at the Porsche.....and wonder if I should/could have done certain bits better!

I guess this is where forums such as this come into their own....a treasure trove of ideas and knowledge.

I am looking forward to starting the Aventador....not a classic in it's complexity....but the challenge is there for me to accept, or turn away from....fat chance....bring it on Pocher

Regards

Ron

Well while we're 935'ing, I'll turn this into a peeing contest that I claim to be the winner of in one category. 'Oldest Crock On The Forum'.!

Here's mine, completed in 1989 - when I was a young pup.

OK-- 42. No skills, no PE and no shame... :clown:

Oldest 'croc'......hmmmm.....my 64th is in a few weeks....so who wins eh!

That's one big thing I like about your builds....like me....you are not afraid to show wear and tear on your builds....

And I know from experience...it doesn't always sit well from some peoples viewpoint...but for me...it adds another important level of reality.

Like that 935....it's always been the 'Martini' livery that sends a shiver up my spine!

Ron

incredible realism these 935's ... beautiful.... :gobsmacked:

Stommelen and Newman IMSA car ! Was this the Le Man livery ? is this a Tamiya ?

Codger incredible weathering of the exterior and detailing of the interior. The dashboard and crisp realistic steering could have fooled me as 1:1 any day...
