Mirage IIIC, Escadrille 2/10 Seine

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm really a slow builder, and when I finally manage to finish something or reach the finishing stages, my sausge fingers do produce chaos ...

So thiis kit bgan its life in the guise of a Djibuti desert color scheme and it reached decals stage, but then I spilled some isopropyl (sp?) alcohol on the camo, thus leading to paint removal and the blue air defense scheme.

This is the 1/48 Hobby Boss kit, paints are Gunze acryls and AK metallics for the undersides.

Enough banter, on to the piccies ...;

Comments and crits most welcome.

A very special one! This discreetly weathering is perfect! Looks very realistic and nothing is overdone!

Perfect!

How are these AK metallics? Better than Alclad? Please let me know!

Hello,

Thanks to you all for the kind words, glad you like her :drink:

Andy, the AK metallics are really cool stuff , 1st thing it doesn't smell as Alclad does. Pigment seems to be finer than Alclad.

On the spraying side, same preparation of kit surfaces applies.

Been spraying it with my Iwata, 0,2 needle, pressure less than 1 bar (sorry don't know the PSI equivalent) and have been using their cleaner. it's the kind of the acetone family, so you need an airbrush with Teflon seams.

Surface was de-greased, painted with glossy black (Gunze acryl) base. Quite resistant to masking, at least to Tamiya tape, and stronger than alclad.

Best,

FYI

1 bar = ~14.5 PSI

The Mirage III is one of my favourite aircraft and you have done a superb job with this one. The paint finish is excellent. You'd never know about your accident.

That is a superb job, really well done and others have mentioned, subtly weathered.

Hopefully we'll get to see more like this in the Mirage GB in 2017.

Thanks for sharing.

Hello Gentlemen,

Again, thanks a bunch for the kind words; the weathering was limited to what I saw on the reference picture, if you like, you'll get some pics of the building progress here : https://goo.gl/photos/pN2qJWQkTcAu1gHd8

@VG33 : 2/10 was the best Mirage Squadron ! :yahoo:

@Wez :going to check the GB calandar, as I have a few other Mirages in the queue line : at lest 2 other IIIC, a IIIE, IV and a 2000 ... or 2 ! :)

Best,

Looking forward to seeing your Mirage IV. A most impressive beast. A real one has recently been donated by the l'Armee De L'air to the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, which was where the Free French bomber command squadrons were based in WW2 so very appropriate. They have a IIIE as well.

excellent Mirage, the scheme looks good!

nice kit, isn´t it? especially for that little money, and definitely easier to build than the Eduard version.

my dad is building an Israeli Mirage with that kit at the moment

cheers :bye:

Hello,

Easier to build than the Eduard, but has some tricky parts - the good news is taht the main UC legs are the correct mength, where Eduard has a "bottom high" (pardon my french) stance. The windshield fit is really ugly, I had to add some plasticard around it to make it flush with the surounding fuselage.

Here is the album of the building, when it was to be in desert scheme : https://goo.gl/photos/rRaS3Lo7BUuzSGvc6

You will see the windshield work.

Another area of attention is the upper wing seam to fuselage.

I have the Eduard kit nearly complete, in Israelui Markings, should be complete in the coming weeks.

@Stephane

looked good in desert colours, a pity

wing to fuselage fit was good, only some minor filiing/sanding neccessary, like with most kits

and yes, windshield to fuselage test-fitting showed there will be some work to do :-)

looking forward to your IAF ;-)

Bonsoir Stephane,

I somehow missed your Mirage when you posted it and just found it.

Now that's a beauty of a model. I am sure Mr Marcel is proud of it!

I have the old Heller 1/48 kit almost half way done, but for a plane of the 1/10 Valois... Re-scribing is hell.

It's going to be a hard job to get anywhere near the quality of your model.

Congratulations and Cocorico!

Excellent catch and I love the result. Really like that little finish detail behind the radome.

Splendid work sir.
