Bugle07
Really good work on display, very impressive. Can't wait to see what you do with the Skua, strange little plane that they were. Geoff
Grey Beema
Whilst on the subject of the Blackburn Skua I have read Skua:-The Royal Navy's Dive-Bomber: The Royal Navy's Dive-Bomber" by Peter Smith and thought you might be interested in this quote of Firsts"SKUA ‘FIRSTS’ The Blackburn Skua was notable for a Royal Navy aircraft for the large number of ‘firsts’ she notched up in such a short career: First –monoplane in Royal Naval service; First –all-metal aircraft in Royal Naval service; First –British aircraft to shoot down a Confirmed German aircraft in the Second World War; First –aircraft in the world to sink a major warship by dive-bombing; First –British aircraft to have a bomb-ejector fork for bomb to clear propeller in dive; First –British aircraft with sleeve-valve engine; First –British aircraft to feature Koffman starter gun for engine; First –British aircraft to mount four Browning guns clear of prop. No CC gear; First –British aircraft to feature two-speed propeller (two pitch positions); First –and only aircraft to be fitted with anti-spin tail parachute; First –British aircraft equipped with radio-homing beacon on new VHF; First –British aircraft to have front gun reflector sight; First –British aircraft fitted with oxygen bottles and supply lines." Not bad for an aeroplane many haven't heard of...

Grey Beema
Couple of hours out in the cave this weekend. - Seems lots of effort but not much progress yet but here is a couple of pictures of the weekends effort. Only iPhone pics - when I get a bit further I will use the camera. Skua II, L2925 Apr 1940 Working on busying up the cockpit. Seatbelts in for the pilot but not yet bent to shape or painted. TAG only has cushions at this stage - seat belt after the cushion is painted. I also decided to cut out the Radios moulded on to the rear bulk head and build them up. I will refit them to the floor later. Also put a bit of plumbing and wiring in to make it more interesting (pictures of Skua cockpit are like hens teeth). General Picture General View from the left side of the aeroplane. Radios under construction Corsair MkII JT537 Again working on Installing the cockpit. This time using the MDC Conversion set side walls. Bit of busying going on with a couple of levers and new throttle lever. View across the cockpit. The MDC set is quite remarkable - they also supplied the seat with moulded seatbelts - difficult to paint but I hope I did them justice.. View of the seat from above Next weekend I hope tp get the cockpits finished and button up the fuselage.. Those large photos are not that flattering are they... Thanks for stopping by.. Grey Beema
Was able to spend quite a bit of time in the cave this weekend so managed to make some progress. Well its progress given my usual rate of productivity.. Skua II, L2925 Apr 1940 Both cockpits completed. I had to redo a couple of items but kept it going all day. And Tah Dah!! Got the fuselage buttoned up. Bit awkward and being a SH Short run kit was a little fiddly. Of course all of the extra detail that went in cannot be seen. If you make one yourself don't bother with detailing between the tanks because you cant see it. The bit I can see is where the filler pipe doesn't reach the filler cap on the fuselage sides. I think I need to look at creating that illusion next weekend. The next bit is fitting the wings. Slow and steady is the way here and I think that there will be some fettling to make them fit well.. Anyway a couple of pictures.. Overall view - she is a big bird.. Those bloody filler pipes.... Corsair MkII JT537 Again finished out the cockpit with the MCD side walls. Then it was just a case of a bit of model making. Then I realised I had used the wrong cockpit rear bulkhead - Arghhhhh! but a bit of filler later and the side cutouts were filled... Thanks for stopping by.. Edited November 19, 2017 by Grey Beema

Grey Beema
OK - Well you asked for it... For 1940 we have the Skua and Sea Gladiator which you have seen above but the Fleet Air Arm also contributed to the Battle of Britain with four of the pilots seconded to the RAF becoming aces. SLt F Dawson-Paul with 64 Sqn Slt A (Admiral) Blake with 19 Sqn There is conjecture about the Aircraft ID letter for both of these aircraft. Slt J E Gardner (Left) and SLt R. Cork (Right) 242 Sqn 1941 Fairey Fulmar I (I have posted a pic of this before but its one of my favorites)... Stan Orr 1942 Sea Hurricane Operation Pedestal - Lt R. Cork (the exact id of this aircraft is yet to be confirmed as too is the aircraft Id letter. I chose "K" as it is the right flight for Cork and his success in the BofB was in "K".. Martlet II Operation Pedestal (You've seen this one as well) Seafire II 1943 - Needs a bit of work 1944 Hellcat I - Stan Orr (WIP) Corsair II - Ronnie Hay 1945 SLt R Reynolds Corsair II (Wip above) Firefly (stash) Hellcat II SLt W Atkinson RCN (this is currently being changed as new evidence shows the X lower on the tail and it is believed the serial should be near the top of the tail but here it is as was. If you are still awake after that little lot = Thanks for stopping by.. 12

Cookenbacher
Where's the 'super like' button? I love the camo on the Fulmar. Are either of the Seafire kits by Special Hobby by chance? I'm curious as I've heard they are coming out with 1/72 versions.
Grey Beema
Hi Cookie - yes both of the Seafires are SH. I enjoy the SH kits TBH though they do need a bit of cleaning up and a bit of fettling but they are good kits. Two Seafires, Fulmar, Skua and the Firefly in the stash are all SH.. 1
Ex-FAAWAFU
All excellent, with (to my eyes) Stan Orr’s Fulmar & Dickie Cork’s Sea Hurricane particularly outstanding. BZ Edited November 21, 2017 by Ex-FAAWAFU
Grey Beema
Thanks for your feedback guys you are all over generous but no one has yet pointed out that I captioned the BoB Hurricanes the wrong way around. It's actually Corks aeroplane on the left (K) and Gardner's (V) on the right.. I think I might slip the Airfix Sea Hurricane into my Christmas Stash enhancement purchase (along with another Seafire III! A Hobby Boss FM1 Wildcat and if it ever arrives a Sea Fury. Bruen's Pedestal Hurricane needs to be included in the collection. Edited November 21, 2017 by Grey Beema
Johnny1000
Cool work all around. A few planes I didn't know: Skua, Fulmar, etc. Those Spitfires and Corsairs look really good. It's great to see familiar faces in unfamiliar schemes. -J
Grey Beema
First time at the bench since before Christmas and a quick catch up. The Corsair II has had its wings fitted. Flaps too have been fitted, not sure I'm totally happy with them, the Tamiya kit is designed for a flaps down build not a flaps up build, I not sure if it is me or are the flaps quite hard to fit in the up position. I also have made new wingtips. I over clipped them and had to rebuild them but I have incorporated the Nav lights (here covered in blutac. I managed to get the first coat of paint today, when this is hardened (next weekend), I will spray a coat of ZCY and let that harden before the TSS goes on. This will Allow scraping through to the ZYC and bare metal (on the metal parts) when weathering. Also done a bit of work on the Skua II, wing Navigation lights made and fitted, landing lights fitted (covered in blutac and tape respectively), hand hold drilled through and outer wing panels fitted. Bit of filling done and canopy fitted. Now the canopy was to narrow and needed to be stretched. So I put a thin plastic card ledge to fit the canopy against then wedged it down with tape whilst it dried. Forgot to mention that I also cut off the control surface and repositioned them all, obviosly the control locks have not been put on... Again today coat of aluminium paint to go under the SE1 scheme which will be laid directly onto this coat. [/url Just about resisting starting on the Firefly cockpit.... Thanks for looking... Grey Beema
Couple more hours in the Cave today. Corsair was in receipt of its CO vents. It was also in receipt of its Chromate Yellow primer which once dry was treated to a coat of Klear. Once that had dried the underside was painted Sky S. I love the smooth finish of the Xtracrylics paint.. Skua also got some attention today, with my interpretation of Cerux(?) grey for the SE1 which needed a couple of coats and has also been coated with Klear. Unfortunately due to the fact that the grey and the silver have similar tone it is difficult to see if I did anything today. Next weekend then will be the weekend of blutac sausages, Extra Dark Sea Grey and Slate Grey.... So a bit boring this weekend Dear Reader more excitement next weekend... Thanks for stopping by..
