Paul A H
R-3S/AA-2 Atoll A - Brassin Resin Accessories 1:72 Eduard The K-13, known in the West by its NATO codename Atoll was an infrared homing air-to-air missile used by the Warsaw Pact nations and their allies from the 1960s onwards. The weapon bears a striking resemblance to the US designed AIM-9 Sidewinder, from which it was reverse-engineered. Indeed, examination of captured examples by the West demonstrated that parts of the AA-2 were interchangeable with AIM-9 to the extent that it would be possible to build a working example from parts of both weapons. The missile was used most commonly on the MiG-21, MiG-23 and Sukhoi Su-7/17/22 family. Eduard's rendition of this important weapon is up to the usual standard. Each is cast as single piece, but you do get a separate protective nose cone and launch rails. The forward fins and rocket exhaust are picked out in photo etched brass and you also get a comprehensive selection of decals to finish your missiles off nicely. The casting is flawless and details are nice and sharp. Conclusion Extra ordnance is always worth grabbing if you get the chance, even more so when it's as good as this. All we need now is Eduard to get on with their 1:72 MiG-21 series and we're all set. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of
