CedB
Here's my entry - a new Eduard 1/72 Spitfire Mk IX using the kit scheme for MJ250 as UFoQ No 601 Sqn Italy, Summer 1944. Finished with AK True Metal (paste) and Lifecolor for the camo, matt coated with W&N varnish. AM Brassin 500lb bomb. The kit comes with some nice, if fiddly, coloured PE for the internals too leading me to do this as my first open cockpit, wheels down model. I hope you like it. tonyot
1/48th Revell Mustang Mk.III 213 Sqn, Egypt/Italy 1944- old ICM kit. Hiya Folks,.....not the easiest kit in the world to build and nothing like the lovely Tamiya ki to which it bears such a close relationship to! I have wanted to build a Mustang Mk.III in the markings of 213 Sqn for some time now and I`m grateful to Revell for including this aircraft on their decal sheet; ; The model was brush painted using Acrylic paints and here is the WIP; Cheers, Tony Edited October 23, 2016 by tonyot
tonyot
1/48th Hasegawa Mustang Mk.IV, 112 Sqn, Italy 1945 Hiya Folks,......here is another Mustang,......this time a Hasegaw kit built as a silver Mk.IV in 112 Sqn markings with the famous sharks mouth. Although it was earlier flown as Wing Commander Brian Eaton bearing his personal `BAE' codes and a Desert Air Force shield, it later moved to 112 Sqn and judging from the reference photo KH745 was quite well worn by the time it was photographed in 112 Sqn markings so I`ve dulled it down and dirtied it up a bit; The main silver finish was from a Tamiya rattle can but the rest was brush painted including the anti glare panel and the varnish. Here is the WIP; Cheers Tony Edited October 23, 2016 by tonyot

tonyot
1/48th Lone Star/Revell conversion- Marauder Mk.I, 14 Sqn, RAF, Tunisia 1943 Hiya Folks, I`ve wanted to build a 1/48th scale Marauder Mk.I for quite some time and for a Christmas prezzie last year I received the Lone Star early B-26 conversion from the USA complete with the `Hot Rod Marauders' decal sheet from Red Gecko Productions. This was combined with a Revell boxing of the venerable Monogram B-26B Marauder kit. The airframe was sanded smooth and rescribed with the armour from the nose sanded smooth and the rear waist windows filled in and moved forwards, easier said than done considering that the Revell plastic was like reinforced steel! A new set of spinners and wheels intended for a P-61 Black Widow were also incorporated into the build. Although the conversion was very `taxing' to say the least, probably the hardest part was to remove the framework from the inside of the nose cone bubble! The subject aircraft, like many of the early 14 Sqn Marauder Mk.I`s bore a locally applied version of the Temperate Sea Scheme for their low level over water armed recce/ torpedo bomber role, consisting of what appears to be Olive Drab and a dark grey such as Extra Dark Sea Grey,....possibly with the original US Neautral Grey undersides. A desert scheme had been applied to these aircraft in anticipation of 14 Sqn returning to its previous light bomber role over the desert, but this was soon modified for their eventual maritime role. The subject aircraft was Marauder Mk.I, FK142/R, `Dominion Triumph' usually flown by the CO Wing Commander Dick Maydwell and here is the finished model, armed with a torpedo from a Tamiya Swordfish and mounted on a scratch built mounting; And here is the WIP which shows the conversion process and explains the colour scheme in more detail; As usual with most of my models, this was brush painted, using Tamiya. Polly Scale and Aeromaster acrylics....hairy brushes rule!! All the best Tony Edited November 1, 2016 by tonyot

Stew Dapple
Here is my Malta Spitfire, Vb BR294 GLoE which flew with 185 Squadron based at Hal Far in mid-1942. Build thread here. The kit is the Kovozavody Prostejov (KP) Spitfire Vb Trop built almost OOB with the addition of Eduard Microfabric seatbelts and Xtradecal Battle of Malta - Allies transfers. The instructions for these transfers show BR294 as being painted in the tropical Dark Earth/Middle Stone/Azure Blue scheme but in light of some very useful information and photographs generously provided by BM''s Tony O'Toole I painted mine in Sovereign Colourcoats ACUS07 WW2 USN Sea Blue over ACRN29 Sky Blue BS1. Hockeyboy76
Remembrance Sunday. A perfect day to finish this tribute build. When 24-year-old Flt Sgt Dennis Copping was forced to crash-land here in June 1942 he probably realised he stood no chance of survival. On June 28, 1942, Flt Sgt Dennis Copping of the RAF was flying a damaged P-40 Kittyhawk between two British airfields in Egypt for repairs and maintenance. But the aircraft never arrived at its destination, and for 70 years the Kittyhawk’s fate, and that of its 24-year-old pilot, remained a mystery. The Kittyhawk bearing the 260 Squadron “HS” squadron code and the aircraft letter “B” settled down over a wide and remote expanse of North African sand desert called Al Wadi al Jadid. Perhaps low on fuel, perhaps lost, or with mechanical problems, the RAF pilot chose to land in the vast North African Sahara. With his landing gear locked down, he flared low over the sand and settled onto it. The gear snapped off, the desert camouflaged P-40 collapsed onto its belly and slid for a hundred meters or more shedding its radiators and propeller hub. After coming to a stop, the pilot exited the aircraft, closed the canopy and disappeared into the sands of history. The aircraft itself would remain undiscovered for seven decades, perhaps for much of it covered by the sands of time. Build link Airfix 1/72 P40. Beard
Spitfire Vb ER220 92 Squadron RAF This is my attempt at a well-known aircraft flown by Neville Duke, best known from this photograph: I used the recent KP 1/72 release, brush-painted with Airfix and Sovereign Hobbies enamels. (Yes, I've noticed the seam on the tyres too.) Here's a link to the build. Stew Dapple
My third completion of this Group Build, the Airfix 1/72 Curtiss P-40B Tomahawk IIb AK457 GAoO of 112 Squadron, flown by Sgt William Earl Houston, of Hastings, Hawkes Bay County, New Zealand, aged 19 years, killed in action on 12 December 1941. He is remembered on the Alamein Memorial, Column 125. As indicated above the kit is the Airfix P-40B (starter set version which I got for £3 from Aldi last Christmas) built almost OOB but for the addition of Eduard Microfabric Seatbelts and r/t aerials from Infini Fine White Lycra Rigging Thread; I also drilled out the exhaust outlets and made the navigation lights on the upper and lower wingtips from Micro Kristal Klear tinted with Tamiya clear acrylic paints. The kit is finished in Phoenix Precision Paints M102 Dark Earth over M116 Middle Stone, both of these over Sovereign Hobbies ACRN34 Azure Blue. The transfers for the national markings are from the kit, all the others are from Kits-World but the set in question appears to be very hard to find these days; they were very nice and gave me no issues - nor did the kit transfers, come to think of it. tonyot
1/72nd Airfix Blenheim Mk.If, 30 Sqn, Greece, 1941 I have always wanted to build an RAF Blenheim Mk.I based in Northern Greece during 1941, preferably as a Mk.If fighter variant with a gun pack and with small bombs mounted on Small Stores Carriers on the rear fuselage and with its desert camouflage and large fuselage roundel and fin stripes, this one ticked all of the boxes. For anybody interested in this subject I can heartily recommend the book "Blenheim`s Over Greece and Crete" by Brian Cull,....it is excellent and brings to life the bravery of the men who flew these machines; Here is the WIP; It was painted using Humbrol enamel Middle Stone and Dark Earth with Polly Scale Azure Blue undersides.
